Hi folks just wondering if an early TD5 bulkhead is the same as a 300 tdi. Certainly the dash layout seems to be the same.
Thanks
Rod

On the under bonnet side some of the brackets are different, as the Tdi uses a different header tank to the Td5 (Td5 sits on 3 legs and mounts onto the bulkhead, whereas the Tdi is on the front corner of the wing)

Plus the clips for the front wing wiring loom plugs (although it may only be late Td5 that had these on plugs, I think early Td5 the wing looms were all part of the main dash harness?) and a few studs for earth joints and for mounting other loom fixings onto.

But as JST says, pretty much similar and certainly interchangeable.

The 300tdi wiring loom goes through the bulkhead via a round hole above the fusebox, whereas the TD5 uses the two oval holes at dash level. SO a hole will need to be drilled into the Td5 bulkhead to do this.

As JST says, they are interchangeable. I had an 86 Defender 90. Started life as a 2 1/4 petrol, then 3.5 V8, 3.9V8 and finally I fitted a 200TDI. After that I went in for a major rebuild. Fitted a genuine TD5 bulkhead. The top rail of the dash is different, so I cut the old rail off the top of the old BH and bolted it to the TD5. Also the the tunnel is different but you can buy/bolt on the specific tunnel adaptor from your current BH. The wiring loom was long enough to fit through the newer holes, just need to buy the correct gromits. Also the heater matrix mounts differently, so you'll need to drill a few holes and buy a new style gasket.
