Puma tub question
Ok.. so being we don't have PUMA'S over here, I don't have much of a reference point for this. Of all the PUMA trucks I have seen, (online photos, at the factory, and in the UK while I was there) all of them have the stepped rear tub.

Recently I was told "Not all PUMA tubs are stepped, only 90 stationwagons and 110 stationwagons were stepped. All soft top and commercial hardtops had the std Td5 innerwings".

Is this so, what are the defining features of "commercial hardtop" compared to a "stationwagon" ? it's a Landrover thing...

I think that station wagons (90 and 110) that are fitted with rear fold-up forward facing seats have the stepped tubs, and in the case of the 110SW even if they aren't fitted (but could be). Commercials are never intended to be fitted with that type of seat,so have the conventional unstepped tub.

I believe that's the case but am happy to be corrected

When i started this i thought it would be an easier explanation...maybe not.

Basically any commercial van no seats, has square sides i think

Any seated commercial so the 110 with the seats in the back row 2 but not row 3, van or pick up, has the stepped tub again from memory Mike

I guess a stepped tub in a commercial vehicle would be a bit of a pain to deal with as far as an un-even surface for sticking things?

So essentially they were making 4 different types of tubs, 90 & 110 flat, 90 & 110 stepped. I would think flat would probably have been the easier / less expensive to manufacture. it's a Landrover thing...

Tub types on Pumas:

90 stepped -> fitted to station wagons (seats and windows in rear)
110 5 door stepped -> fitted to station wagons (seats and windows in rear), utility station wagons (no seats or windows in rear), double cab

90 square -> van/soft top/pickup
110 3 door square -> van/soft top/pickup

110 HCPU -> different type altogether
130 HCPU -> ditto

Basically, if it is a 90 and came with seats in the back it got a stepped tub. If it's a 110 with 2 doors per side (CSW, USW, DC) it got a stepped tub.

Otherwise, square tub as per 1983-2006 Smile  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Thats my point - those are the same beds as used in the station wagon - so stepped, thats the same as mine row 2 and a van rear - note it has row 2 of seats.

Im sure the version with no row 2 doesnt have the stepped tub...

That's not a van, it's a 110 Utility Station Wagon. The visible seats are row 2, and it is basically a CSW with no rear seats or windows. 2 doors per side.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

As Martin has said, all Puma 110s with 4 or 5 doors have the stepped tub, since there isn't a non-stepped version of this tub (the DC uses a modified version of the USW/CSW tub which has a front bulkhead, but it is derived from the SW one so is stepped). 2 and 3 door Puma 110s have square tubs (there is no stepped version of the long rear tub).

90s are more confusing since there are both square and stepped versions but their application is as noted above.
