I'm currently extending all of my breathers into the engine bay.
I've found that the front & rear diff and TC breathers are already mid way up the rear of the engine, so will only be extending them higher up. The tank breather will be extended from the tank to engine bay. So 2 questions... 1. Should I leave the valve on the tank breather? 2. How to remove the diff breathers from the diff? Wanting to blow some air through, ensuring they are clear, before doing the extensions . But I can't seem to remove them. After much searching on here, the only answer was "to pull hard". Now I've tried tugging but they don't want to budge and I don't want to break anything as this is my only vehicle and if the connection breaks I'll be pretty fooked as it's a 20 km drive into town on gravel roads with many deep (+-1/2 meter) puddles on the way and chances of the part being in stock is also very slim. Tips or tricks will be greatly appreciated... For the diff and transmission breathers if they already go to the engine bay can you use pneumatic connections to join them and then run one new line from them up the side of the RAI? 1995 Defender 110 CSW

Thanks Ramsay, yes already have all the bits required.

Are they not pneumatic connectors that have a collar around the pipe that has to be pushed in before the pipe can be pulled out? Darren

Yep, all that was required is to tug a little (rather a bit) more... Job done, the TC and front breather had mud-wasps nests in the end. Now to continue with the extending... Gwyn Lewis does a rather nice breather kit which includes a threaded right angle connection to the axles to prevent them become 'unintentionally' dislodged. I think it's an M12 thread.
A couple of those connectors might finish the job off nicely, and they should be available elsewhere |

Screbble, did have a look at those, but could not find anything suitable around Maun.

Ah yes - it is quite a distance
I can't offer to pick them up and drop them off when I'm next over there...... I was thinking that they may be sourced 'nearer' to you as they are 'industry' spec? They certainly look more substantial than the push in - but that said, yours didn't exactly fall out did they! Best of luck |

could someone post a pic and location of where the diff breathers end in the engine bay? I cant find them for the life of me.....wanting to switch over to the ARB diff breather set up!

Hard to describe and also hard to spot looking at the engine from above (at least on a 2.4).
Sort of between engine and air-con and down? Mess of pipes, loom and so on.. Easy to find if you follow them from the diff/hear box etc. Time to get your overalls on?  Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...Last edited by agentmulder on 20th Mar 2017 9:00pm. Edited 1 time in total |

The breathers on my 2.2 were on the left rear of the engine, about halfway up.
As agentmulder said "between engine and air-con and down? Mess of pipes, loom and so on.." (look directly below the white heater controller) Being a little short in the legs, I could not locate them from the top (even using my milk crate ladder), so went below and pulled the breathers. Did the extensions and fed the pipes under the blower. Breathers now well out of harms way

Just been under the Defender (puma) located the breather on top...... and also in the engine bay.... What's the best way to check it's clear? |

I check mine are clear when I check my levels. Remove the fill/level plug check for oil, and then blow through pipe into box, which you can now hear via the open plug hole.
