10AS Alarm remote aerial location
Ok folks this is not a life and death thing but rather caused by the addition of a faraday like cage around my Defender 110, referring to the external/internal roll cage, security grills and dog guard.

So, the 10AS alarm must have some sort of aerial that picks up the signal from the remote fob, but where is it located? Assume behind the dash.

I am considering trying to relocate it or extend it or both in a vain attempt at improving the remote functionality...

At the moment I literally have to be standing somewhere near the front doors for the doors to unlock.

Either replace it with longer or simply lengthen with solder joint and heat shrink then run the cable up the A-pillar behind the plastic trim.

Extends range by around 3 to 4 times original.

I can operate the alarm from inside the house now.

I'm interested in this, where would I find the wire to extend it, do I need to pull my dash apart (again)?

Not sure it's the done thing discussing security features in a public forum, but put it this way: I found the discussing that mod on public forums Thumbs Up

But to answer questions, no didn't need to pull dash off on my puma. Depending on the size of your hands you'll need patience though. Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

The end of the cable on my truck ended up between the air vents on the dash. I soldered 6 ft of cable on the end and went up the A pillar and back the roof under the headlining. It works from about 30ft now. 2009 2.4TDCi XS Utility Wagon.

Next step is to increase the fob transmission power by capacitively coupling it with the fluids in your head:

And no, it's not an April fools - it works.

No harm trying it by yourself one morning yeah? Thumbs Up

That combined with the aerial lengthening gives me up to 10 X more range.

Especially good if you get it first time as then the fob is 'powered up' having had no recent use. Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...
