Maybe Steve knows.... What's different with the ranger engine? There's a lot more rangers about then 200hp transit vans. 2009 2.4TDCi XS Utility Wagon.

The 3.2 is a great engine, but from what I heard you need the Ranger version, not the Transit, which differs in material. Only a few around and way expensive. What about all that torque, how do you get it from the shaft to the road without breaking gear teeth? Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel.

Hearing and having are 2 different things no body has a ranger engine running standalone in a defender

Yet there is at least 10 transit engined 3.2 tdci engines in defender and I own one of them and have built 3

out of interest is it a case of using the Ranger engine, but with the transit harness and ECU?

Logic being, More 3.2 Ranger engines around than 3.2 Transits, but a new Transit ECU and Harness should be available at a reasonable cost from Ford.

So if a Ranger could be had for the right price then it might still be a cheaper option, than paying over the odds for a transit lump.

Bargain. Probably not far off the new price from Ford.

Looking on the transit forums it seems there is also competition from Transit owners wanting to fit them in motohomes and day vans.

I'm assuming that when you pay 20k for NeneOverland to put the 3.2 in the defender that you get a new engine or at least delivery mileage.
Does anyone know the price for the transit engine from ford? 2009 2.4TDCi XS Utility Wagon.

You would hope so. Although as Ford no longer make the Puma engine, i would imagine stocks of them must be dwindling.

Puma has been replaced by the new Panther engine, perhaps they'll offer Panther conversions.

another option for you

a ford transit 3.2 ambulance for £3700, remove engine/box and break the rest or put 2.2 in it and reclaim some of your money back. could be a cheap way of getting a 3.2 2008 Santorini Black 110 XS USW (Sold)

Even though they've stopped making the engine I guess whatever stock there is, isn't getting used up that fast. Maybe the only realistic option is someone works out how to get the ranger engine going.
I saw that ambulance. However..it has nearly quarter of a million miles on it. 2009 2.4TDCi XS Utility Wagon.
