REMOVABLE steering wheel.
Probably the best anti-theft deterrent/prevention!

Puma 2.4 90 estate. I am looking for removable steering wheel and boss combination, which would either take my OE wheel or replace with like size.

Very important to me is that the space between hub and upper rim is the same as my OE wheel. Pumas have much larger dials than previous Defenders (using the Disco 3 ones). So no cut-off wanted. OE is just right! Flatter base is OK. I am 6' 2" tall, look down on the console and already have the seat back as far as it will go.

So with all that criteria, can anyone help please?! Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

The only option really for this is an Optimill quick release boss, since it is the only QR boss which leaves the wheel in roughly the same place. You won't be able to use the original wheel, but there are many aftermarket wheels in a range of sizes that you can choose from.

Can confirm that, after extensive research. Optimill QR boss with compatable flat dish Momo the only real option.

Have recently fitted an Optimill boss and Momo Jet which is advertised as flat dish. Nice feel to it and my fingers reach the stalks just as easily as before. Very happy with it. Optimill also have a locking cover - for the part of the boss that stays on the car - under development, I'll get one of these when available.

That sounds like a good idea.

My Optimill QR boss turned up today.... my what a beautiful piece of engineering. Been out and had a bit of a play but unfortunately a couple of bits to do round the steering column before it goes on permanently.

I was fortunate enough to pick up a good Momo Tuner to go on it. The back mounting face of the tuner is level with the back edge of the wheel rim and looks like on the Optimill QR boss it will sit on the same plane as the original steering wheel.

One very happy chappy here Very Happy 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

Recently got the exact same set up (momo tuner on an optimal QR boss) and very happy.

It's my first experience with optimill, but I must say I'm impressed. Didn't know about the locking feature that's in development. I have cut my own sticker from some yellow vinyl to make it more obvious there is no wheel to potential thieves.

Also happy with the momo. Almost went for a flock wheel rather than leather but after reading on other forums that the flock wears rather quickly I decided against it. Only downside so far is that the smaller diameter has made the steering noticeably heavier.

Its only taken me a week or so to get used to the slightly heavier steering and I think it's actually an improvement on the motorway etc.
Had to move a mates the other day and completely oversteered it Rolling with laughter

I am more than happy with it and I think at least one of my Defender chums plans to do the same (or nick mine). 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

How is the steering made heavier?! Not quite what I want as use larger tyres. 😔 Also all Momos seem to have smaller diameters than the OE.

Mono Tuner does look most like the OE for http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/BrandCategor...oCfq_w_wcB Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Smaller diameter means less leverage, hence heavier steering. Darren

It is the slightly smaller diameter (350mm vs 400 ish) that makes the steering slightly heavier but it is only slightly. I think I actually prefer it now. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

LR must have chosen 400mm for a reason originally. 50mm, 25mm each side is more than it may appear. The OE rim is parallel to Puma's console edge. Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world.
