Internal roll cage padding that looks smart.
I have bought my Defender a roll cage, a Safety Devices one. Any recommendations of extra or replacement of OE parts?

The cage is part internal, part external. I would like some decently protective smart looking padding for the internal bars rather than just pipe lagging. Any ideas please? Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. HAve also been thinking about this. The internal hoop I can cope with, its the seat belt brackets that look wicked...

The SD fix is to wrap foam padding around these and either cable tie or gaffa tape. Like you say, not exactly smart looking...

Have you considered sports equipment padding, such as fence padding, goal post, netball post padding, the beauty of this padding is that from the UK companies who supply it you can have it made up in any colour and if you wish can have anything printed on it.

I have used products from Post Protectors Uk on some of my fencing around the paddock and as they do loads of sizes and colours both round and square I am sure you would find something to suit. They are sturdy and like pipe protectors are split for easy placing.

Do a quick google on fence post padding there are loads of companies doing it

Not sure of what the quality is in this one compared to Gilarion's depends if its for show or if its for protection. Have a full internal roll cage in my 110 and the only time I ever whack my head is when I get in or out in a hurry. What do they say more haste less speed!

Safety devices do two types - one for motorsport and one for others. This is to allow motorsport users wearing helmets.

Would you mind taking some pics of the inside and specifically how the front seats sit in relation to the internal bar?

Mine is the RBL1387SSS. If you go to Safety Devices web site, or Devon 4x4, they have both photos and exploded diagram of the cage. Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. May go for gray to match inside colour. I am slightly anxious that the cage might stop driver's seat sliding right back and the back tilt will be restricted. Even if that is OK, padding might obstruct seat adjustment if it's margin is slight. Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. If you're happy with Black then foam rubber insulaton used on refridgeration and HVAC piping is a good bet. It's a soft foam rubber with a smooth finish rather than the cheap foam used for normal plumbing.

I'm interested in this topic as I'm getting an SD cage in April. I'm sure I read on their website somewhere about sticking the padding on with adhesive. I think I'll do that as in my eyes the cable ties make it look a bit scruffy where it pinches the padding. Maybe just one of those small details that help the appearance.
Like the look of that saddle pad shown above too.
