Coolant leaking around expansion tank cap.
I seem to be losing a small amount of coolant out of fill cap on the expansion tank. There is always a small amount of coolant on the outside of the tank around the cap. It leaks enough that I do have to add a bit of coolant between service, not a lot, but it does bother me. Faulty cap or a sign of serious impending doom? 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Change the cap, IIRC they have a PRV built in that can go haywire.

They are quite cheap. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Common issue, as Steve says the cap is knackered.
Replace it .... and it's one of the few items where a pattern part is better than genuine Thumbs Up Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

Genuine isn't very expensive, I bought one myself last year.

Try Dan @ Duckworth parts.

When I bought mine it leaked so I bough a new cap and it still leaked, so I bought another cap and that too still leaked. In the end I bought a new coolant tank and all has been OK since then so it was not the cap!!!!

At least I have some spare caps now! Cheers Don.

True! Mine stopped leaking once I fitted a britpart cap in dispair! (had previously replaced with two genuine ones and it was still leaking...) “A Land Rover immobilized is a moral defeat for the driver and bad publicity for the vehicle, […] it's up to you to do justice to your Land Rover!” - Land Rover Driving Technique.

Because I'm a glutton for punishment, I've ordered a genuine one, 10. If it doesn't work I'll go Britpart. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

My 2010 110 leaks and has done for the last 173K (kays not miles) and I've never bothered replacing it. Every time I topped up the expansion tank it promptly lost about 2cm but never any more.
I've reached the conclusion that that is the correct level and just left it.

HI
exactly the same issue on my 2007 2.4, did look like the expansion vessel initially but bought the cheapest cap i could find as a quick check, 3.75 on ebay. Put it on about 2k ago, perfect.

My 2008 Puma did it from new, had the cap changed under warranty but it continued to leak for the 9 years or ownership & it never really bothered me...no leaks so far on my 2016...repeat so far!!!! Since 1973...S1, Air Portable's, Defender's, but only my Wolf TUL HS GS remains

New genuine cap seems to have rectified the issue. Did a few hours driving yesterday and no sign of leakage. Wonder how long it will last? 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Really? Original factory cap, and never had a leak in more than 8 years.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.
