New car wash in town....
My local car wash which was already quite a good one, after about 2 years now installed a brand new installation. Where in the past 4x4's with a spare wheel on the rear door had sometimes trouble with the sensors going nuts, the new one is perfect for our Defenders Thumbs Up It works a gem, including undercarriage wash, high pressure jets which just are strong enough not to get thru my door seals, sunroof, etc., soft cloth brushes which first wash, then polish in the wax, and a very good drying system which knows how to deal with spare wheels on the door. Afterward the only thing left to do is to generally towel dry at home, and eventually give the engine a good wipe over and the tires some Michelin matt tire care. Here are some pics, also with the purpose of convincing our new Geneva friend Kitoper that he can safely take his new Defender "Hunter" there Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

My local car wash, which is staffed, wouldn't let me in because my car is "too flat " and the brushes would get stuck. Sad

Nice looking truck you've got there Eric. Have you refurbed the rear crossmember as it has a sheen to it? Just wondering as mine's a 2008 and I've not had to do anything with mine, just a regular squirt of WD. Mal, my rear crossmember was painted satin black several years ago. Had this done well before there was any risk of the crossmember turning brownish Whistle . As you all know the truck is also fully Dinitrolled, including the rear crossmember which is full of soft Dinitrol wax. So I hope it stays ok for the next 30 years or so Thumbs Up . You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Another great find and shared piece of advice from Eric who is a Land Rover mentor and friend. She looks fantastic and ready for some rain free days in Geneva - I hope. Thumbs Up

One and a half year fast forward, and our local car wash got some competition. Went to our local Audi dealer/BP gas station to fill up with BP Ultimate Diesel, and suddenly saw there advertised that they also have a brand new car wash installation. This time not "Christ" who washes the truck Laughing but a "Kärchner" installation. As the SVX was quite dusty, thought to give it a try and it works a treat on the Defender. Some installations have trouble with cars/trucks with a rear mounted spare wheel, but with the many 4x4s around here, including quite a few Defenders, they luckily buy the right type of installations here. The new Kärcher is also slightly less expensive than the other one, so competition works in favor of the customer....

So the only thing that I needed to do after getting home was thoroughly towel dry it, clean the windows and vacuum it. Thumbs Up

That looks a very high tech piece of kit. My eye was also drawn to the branding - some link to divine intervention?

Where I live the 'economy' car wash is usually just a couple of illegal immigrant types with a bucket of dirty water and a gritty cloth (formerly the knickers of Mrs Dobson at No.34). For £5.00 they will trash your paintwork with swirl marks, knock off your washer jets and totally ignore anything below waist height.
