Sarn Helen - near Brecon

Hi all

It's been many many years since I've driven the Sarn Helen in Wales.

I understand it's vehicle rights status has been in dispute for the last few years (i.e. in 2013 no vehicle signs went up but it's not legally the case).

Can anyone clarify for sure? I'm told that there was some kind of legal case a few years back (2010 ish? after someone was ticketed) but it was dropped as technically it's still get vehicle rights of way on it

Any ideas?

The southernmost part of Sarn Helen, across the Seven Sisters/Walters Arena/wind farm site, can still be driven during the 'open' part of the year - unless that's changed.

The bit through the National Park is the bit that's contested. A shame as it's a nice drive with some good features like the rock steps.

Strata Florida is still open, though it continues to suffer from off-piste abuse both in the river and on the forest roads. There are plenty of driveable lanes still in the areas surrounding the National Park. One of my favourites is the small one at the foot of the Claerwen Dam, it's only a few miles long but is a fun drive with a ford at the Northern end and a few rocky sections.
