Whale do a water heater that can be mounted under the vehicle:

It can also be mounted inside the vehicle, and contrary to the Truma, you do not have to mount it directly near the side of the car, because you can extend the flue (1m or more, I think) Defender 130 HCPU Td5 MY2000

Big thank you to Tatra for his help on this so far.

Question: does anyone know if you can have coolant running through a vehicle heat exchanger(HE) with the other side (shower side) of the HE empty and then add colder water without problem to the actual HE?

logic would say have a diverter to allow the coolant to bypass the HE when empty of shower water, well to me anyway.

dont want a cracked HE. Cheers

I think something like this would be ideal

https://www.thermotion.com/4-port-electron...-354-69694

it's from the US though but the diagram give a good idea of what you might want. I think the Puma heater works the same way if I recall a previous post correctly

Though I can't seem to track down the wiring diagram to confirm, i've just started looking into doing a similar thing myself so keen to see how you get on

after a great deal of thinking i started the install of mine today.

i purchased the heat exchanger with a jacket off ebay, it also came with a thermostatic mixing valve
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40...p;_sacat=0

i used std plumbing fitting (its 1/2 and 3/4 BSP fitting on the HE) with barbs for the cold in (13mm) and coolant in/out 16mm.

pipework 16 & 13mm

I have currently mounted the pump - a shurflow 20psi 7l/min unit under the bonnet connected to the shower water in part. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150991066980?_tr...EBIDX%3AIT its on demand, self priming, and can run dry and came with filter. the flow rate and pressure seem about right, this was the recommended one after speaking to as many people as i could!

The shower pipe/head out and water feed (pipe to water butt) are to be fitted when actually required.

Havent tested it fully yet and need to make a proper mount for the pump if its going to stay there. But its in and works - well i ran the websato for 8mins (the HE is plumbed into outlet from webasto) and it was hot enough to shower in Very Happy

Also need to get the vehicle upto temp to check coolant connections.

Pump supply to HE can be disconnected and blown through to make sure no water is left in the HE, having said that i am sure any water in it would evaporate with the coolant passing through the other side in it.

Shower is std house hold unit with pipe just added a ball valve to turn it on/off
