Tdci Doors onto a Tdi
I'm going to replace the doors on my wifes Defender and wondered if the Tdci doors are the exact same size and would fit onto the Tdi body? The reason I ask is I plan on upgrading it with central locking and electric windows and can get hold of two doors off a Tdci with the glass, electric and locking mechanisms complete a lot cheaper than I can buy the parts and it would save some fitting headaches too.

Thanks in advance.

I'm sure the defender size door has not changed since series 3? So I'm sure it will be fine. Thumbs Up 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Thank you. What else would be needed to get the electric windows to work? My wifes 90 has a Td5 wiring loom in it and i'd like to make this as effortless (and inexpensive) as I can. I've seen kits online to add electric motors to the windows but if I could utilise the ones on the Tdci doors i'm looking at all the better.

Thanks for all your help chaps, this place is amazing for knowledge, help and also encouragement. Others just say not to bother but here it seems to be f*** yeah...go for it!

You can do it.
I did the same.
Bought a Td5 bulkhead loom that supported electric windows and central locking.
I then extracted the relevant wiring and then grafted it into the existing loom, utilising the same routes and plugs.
The central locking was easy as the wires are pink or orange and they just got soldered into existing ones from the alarm ecu. The alarm ecu needs changing if you don't have central locking already. They can be modified, but if you search for the right one they do come up on ebay.
So by doing the wiring pretty much as LR did it - if an issue occurs then any help on usual remedies from people on here will be of use rather than a 'Well it could be any one of many things....' !!!

Happy to answer any further questions on this Thumbs Up

You don't need a special loom for electric windows, Power from battery to fuse, then to carling switch per window then to electric window motors.
You Do Not need a relay dead easy.

Central locking is different kettle of fish Alarm fitter wired mine

On another note, I would also want to be certain that the doors that were for sale had a genuine reason for being on sale and weren't removed from one of the numerous stolen Defenders that are mentioned here on a weekly basis. 2001 90 HT 6.0LS/6spdAuto.

It was rear ended and an insurance write off. I'd never buy anything Land Rover without checking it's genuine and not stolen first.
