Random fault - radio stays on and cigarette lighter TD5 Def
Hi folks. I have searched for the answer but can't see anything.

My head unit and cigarette lighter have always turned off with the key. However it randomly the other week stayed on. I keyed back on and off and it went off.

Now it always stays on as does my cig lighter when keys removed. I haven't messed with anything so I think a wiring fault is to blame. Can anyone suggest anything? Thanks

Sounds like you may have some wear in your ignition switch that could bring up other issues in the near future. Maybe best to look at changing soon.

Sounds like a failing ignition switch. Note it's only the switch not the key barrel etc.

The switch is cheap enough as an OE aftermarket part (£16)

Thanks for the assistance there guys. Martin thank you for the parts numbers. I did have an incline it was the ignition switch.

I will get one ordered. Think I need a light stalk too as it doesn't always put beam lights on first time

Martin. Those part number say to suit tdi or td4 and not td5.

Do you know if that's right?

A quick search finds me this one

I'm sure you've got this sorted by now but anyway

PRC8230 / LR035359 / LR039638 are all the same. There is nothing different between them, just supercession.

The only different switch was the pre-Tdi diesels which had a heavier-duty and physically bigger switch to handle the manual glow plug position.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top
