odd brake issue
I have a 2014 defender 90, I've had this happen a couple of times and its a bit strange, brakes binding, not full on binding but slight bind and squeal on all 4 wheels, it seems the same on all 4 wheels, pressing the pedal and the brakes operate but clearly aren't releasing properly, pressing the pedal however many time you like has no effect on how much they seem to be binding, but turn off the ignition then back on again and the problem stops, any ideas as to what this can be ?

is your brake fluid level correct? I had brake pads replaced back in the 90's and when they pushed the pistons back they never took out the excess brake fluid. It gave it nowhere to expand too and they would drag.
That's when I started to learn how to fix them myself 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car)
2009 - current .... 2005 zx10r

Brake servo issue possibly, if they start to fail internally it can cause the actuator rod to press on the master cylinder piston. Confused I started with nothing and still have most of it left!

I stop the engine wait a few seconds turn it back on and it's cured, it's under warranty but wondered if anyone has seen this before, it can go for ages and not do it, the dealer could have it for weeks and it could be fine

Once problem has been fixed by turning if engine presumably it reoccurs after first use of breaks again? Everytime? Cheers

Interesting topic, i have an intermittent squeak on my 110. Checked the brakes for wear, no issue. but my girl suffers from an odd squeak and irregular times. No issues with efficiency.

next step, Im going to check the hand brake.

No James, this is a random issue, most of the time its absolutely fine, just seems to happen as and when it feels like it, its under warranty but if I take it to the dealers and it doesn't do it what can they do in all fairness I just wondered if anyone else had had this, when its happening I've stopped and all the discs are warm to the touch all feel about the same temperature

if its all four then its not wheel station related which means further up the system.

the only thing engine related is the vacuum for the servo

pedal returns to normal height? Cheers

I had a similar problem when I changed the front pads and retaining pins etc. on the front wheels . It took me a while to find out that the pads were sticking on the pins when warm and not moving back with the pistons. I just applied a very small amount of anti squeal paste into the holes which sorted it out. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

i was thinking of warn pins holding pads in or similar but then thought could that be all four at once? Cheers
