Boost, The small pipe at the top of the pic to the left of the exhaust is not to close to the exhaust or is it an illusion ? 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper.

Hi, yeah that's the wire to the starter motor; it's quite close, covered in reflective tape but not ideal.

On full chat EGT's are a tad over 400 degrees C

That's at the 18psi with the max fuel and all other pump tweaks, barely smokes so room for more

Forgot to say: That's with the EGT probe on the exhaust manifold (tapped into the flat casting spot).

So far so good but there are a couple of oil leaks which need attention and the exhaust which needs a fairly major rethink! Laughing

Any idea how long the chap pushing 28psi lasted? I've got a tiny bit of mechanical sympathy and even at 18psi at the manifold I'm a bit cautious, not being a rebuilt engine like Matts.

Main priority at the minute now is to try and sort everything before Christmas and hopefully get a vid up before the New Year Thumbs Up

I'm really keen to source some ARP studs and a head gasket from Cometic or similar if anyone has more information. Will drop IRB a line too as a dyno run would be something else Whistle

Those egt's are good. The probe wants to be on the manifold before the turbo that's where the most heat is.

I think that you should be good for a bit more. Not sure about 28 psi but I run 21 (1.5 bar) on an off road truck that gets death!
Did you use fully synthetic? Could that be the cause of your oil leaks?

I'm definitely interested in some head studs and gasket if you come up trumps.

It might be the fully synthetic, although it was the oil feed line that was leaking at the block. Looking into ARP and Cometic at the moment Cool .

The head's been skimmed fairly recently and we re-ground the valves; just looking for a better way of keeping the head on as well as maybe a thicker and better quality head gasket for a bit lower compression and more durability.

The mad rush to get projects finished before Christmas Rolling with laughter

Hi, Yes rebuilt modified 'full balls out uprated' fuel pump Very Happy Cool I Have some modified injectors to go with it.

ARP's would really help with the worry of raising the psi too much.

Rolling with laughter I am in no rush! Laughing

After a not very lengthy search I have found the part numbers off Aulro for the head studs as ARP don't do a tdi kit.

AM5.500-2b= m10x1.5x5.500" stud (4 off)
AMW750N = m10 hardened washers (4 off)
AMN12-2 = m10 nuts (4 off)
AU4.800-1LUB =m12x1.25x4.800" stud (4 off)
300-8307= m12 nut (14 off)
200-8500 = m12 hardened washers (14 off)
AU6.115-1B= m12x1.25x6.115" stud (10 off)

Are you thinking of getting some ARP studs Matt? A quick question on your rebuild too I presume most of the info you got to rebuild it can be found online? Have you got all the measuring tools needed too? I'd love to rebuild mine, reckon they might be quite reliable at higher than stock output if looked after well.

I read this article today, apparently Bowler made a non-intercooled 200tdi with uprated pistons and some other parts, that put out 180bhp Shocked I'm not convinced tbh.

Edit: Sorry can't find the article but it was a spaceframed 100in chassis with a welded rear diff.
