Ta TC so do I, Ive got to knock the rear of the garage down to get it out of the garden once it has been done

Vixen I was asked to put pics up in the Off Topic section so not a problem. It's a rebuild not a restoration because it's easier for me to do it that way, I have limited mechanical ability and cannot weld, the chassis and bulkhead were toast.

Cost has also been a major factor, the NOS front Axle was a third the price of getting the original one restored (I have kept the original to put on when I pluck up the courage to have a go at rebuilding it!). It has it original engine/gearbox/steering/props/seats etc and body but for the rotten doors, it will have a new wiring loom obviously and I have fitted an alternator and parabolics which are a must have improvement for me. It was originally a basic pick up with no hard top. I am converting it into a Station Wagon so we can use it as a family. It will also be used daily by my wife for commuting and won't be a pampered classic so it has to be reliable and solid as possible

I think there are quite a few Defender owners out there with an old Series tucked away for fun trips out!

Well - it was actually going to be the expedition truck...! 200Tdi, 5-speed - but only 88"

It will now be for 'best' and UK/Europe

I Will do a rebuild like that one day ... just need to swap my apartment for a house (villa) ... and then buy my dream Land Rover ... a 101 FC to restore! Will get there someday!

There are a two companies knocking out restored bulkheads not so far from you which they will also galvanise. Otherwise it won't take long to get one sorted through OLLR or the Series2Club forum

I spotted a genuine 54,000 mile, one owner example a few months ago that had been standing for 10 years. It became too much of a handful for the old lady to drive so she just parked it up and left it! It was no good to me so I passed it onto a mate who has since stripped it and sold the bits on for a profit BUT it just shows they are still out there and the mechanicals were all in very good shape

Sorry thought you would have known about Ashtree http://www.ashtreelandrover.com/ BUT there is another company I discovered on this or the Series 2 Club forum in the last couple of days nearby ish near Andover - I was going to get a front panel off them but I can't remember where I saw them

I'll keep looking but Ashtree will knock one out for you - Think they are about £7-900 if I remember right and quality has improved recently apparently. Either that or get one through the Forums for about £250 in good shape or restored and galavanise it yourself. (£60 minimum fee, your nearest Galvanisers charge I seem to remember!)

£900 plus vat from Ashtree. Fortunately mine's pretty good at the moment, so will soldier on for a bit before I strip it off and refurb it
