Webasto pics coming soon Thumbs Up

Dirt defenders were riveted on yes. I drilled the holes and then painted them to prevent corrosion. Then when I installed them I applied grease to the rivets Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Well today really has not been a very good day at all.

Ever since I changed my coolant in January I have had great difficulty bleeding all of the air out of the system. And for the first time ever this happened.........

Big Cry Big Cry

Anyway today I tested for combustion gas in the coolant and unfortunately it would seem that there is. So there we have it. After 127,000 miles I have had my first major fault with my defender Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

Will now park it up and focus on getting the range rover on the road. Once I have transport then I'll take the head off the defender and see what happens.

Looks like Mondays Cornwall meet will have to be in a different landrover product Rolling Eyes

Yeah I've done all that, including having it vacuum bled.

Unfortunately exhaust gas is getting in and creating air locks, it's only now that I've had a chemical test kit on it and confirmed that there is a problem.

I change the coolant every 2 years regardless and have never had a problem bleeding the system before. Thats why I had a hunch there was a problem looming. I'm guessing that the gas leak had just started when I changed the coolant and has progressively gotten worse over the last few weeks whilst I've been bleeding the system a lot! 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Censored head gasket on its way? Be worth seeing if you can get an up rated one plus you can see if you can get some head work done.

No other symptoms. All the fluids are staying in their correct places. Just combustion gas leaking into the coolant system. It's either a failed gasket or cracked head (Or both)

If it's a cracked head then I'll be getting a ported and flowed one from Turner Engineering Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

yeah i had that with the rover metro, If you have the budget to get the head ported and flowed, even though it turns out to be spot on. Its worth doing while its off, maybe even have a look at the bottom end too, Thumbs Up
If you can sort out a replacement head, before you replace the head gasket, then why not just send the replacement head away for work, then it would be near enough a case of plug and play Thumbs Up
but preper to go over budget though, Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

It a landrover, there is no budget Laughing

I'm only planning on doing this once so I'm not going to be cutting corners. Whatever it costs then I'll get it done. I've been looking at the AMC head from Turner Engineering. It comes pre ported and flowed as far as I'm aware Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

well there is your answer there, Thumbs Up fewer question marks the better for you. I budget 1k on my rover metros head gasket, ( it was a vvc) I did go over that by nearly 500! That was getting the daft odds and sods, but also diagnostic. Which turned out to be dirt in the inlet Rolling Eyes Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
