I'm presuming if I change the whole fitting e.g. for the Nakatanenga one I would like, I will still have the same problem - if so I'll just stick with standard sadly Rob

We have the Nakatanenga interior LED lights in our 1996 Defender as well as our Pumas and no problems with them glowing. They work fine.

Thanks for that Brendan and tempting as it is to press ahead, my concern is that it appears some vehicles (including mine) 'glow' with just an LED bulb replacement and others do not, so based on previous replies I am just wondering if I can be confident changing the whole light unit will avoid the problem which I rather gather comes from further down the line, but I could easily be wrong as changing a fuse is just about the limit of my electrical/electronic skill . . . . . . .

Hi CM, please do not confuse the Nakatenga interior LEL light unit with a cheap led 'bulb'

It has a proper circuit board in, also ability to switch to red light to save your night time vision.

We have sold lots of these units without a single complaint (quickly touching wood)

Before the current trip I am on we replaced both non working nearly 21 year old original fittings with the Nakatanenga ones and they work fine. Now if there was going to be any issues I would expect it on our 110 as both original lights were corroded and fubar.

If you decide to go ahead and there are any issues just return them for a full refund.

Brendan

Thanks for the reply and apologies if I appeared to be comparing a £3 bulb to a £76 complete unit Embarassed

I gather it may be the electronic wizardry on some of the Puma's that creates the issue, but can't go wrong with your offer to return, so will get on with an order, which may be followed by another when I eventually get around to fitting my new rear headlining Whistle

Thumbs Up

Just fitted the Fourby led "bulbs" and working perfectly in my 2.4 Puma. Not bad for a tenner and a spare included.
Tip of the day, pull the fuse before fitting, somehow my finger touched something and blew the fuse.

It's the way the later Siemens alarm module controls the interior lamps. There is a small amount of voltage leakage. The same leakage happens with the standard festoons, it's just that you don't see it Thumbs Up

The door switches have nothing to do with it, at least on a modern Defender.

All the door switches do is talk to the 10AS alarm unit, which then does all the control of the interior lighting. The glowing LEDs is a feature of the 10AS.

oops. posted on wrong topic!! My bad!!!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but can anyone confirm what the options are for those of us with a 2.2 Puma?

I'd like to try some of the LED bulbs (I want the end result to look original so I don't fancy the MUD/Nakatenanga alternatives).

I've read various threads on here and I'm still none the wiser as to what the options are... plenty say these work for me but it's not always clear if they are in a 2.4 or a 2.2.

So, can anyone who has successfully changed the interior bulbs on a 2.2 please post up a link to some suitable bulbs that work without the dim residue light showing, or if it's not possible confirm to that effect.

Many thanks in advance Thumbs Up

There’s is nothing fancy about the 2.2 compared to 2.4. If works on one it’ll work on the other. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Sorry, how is that the case based on this statement that the 2.2 is different?

I installed these:

https://www.conrad.com/p/diodor-led-eec-a-...pcs-704320

Not the cheapest LED around but they are warm white (the colour of the existing incandescent bulb) but produce a lot of good quality even light in the van. Low current draw, low consumption and no 'glow' when in any switch position (other than on!).

Exactly what LR should have installed.... Ian

I, too, have fitted the Diodor bulbs from Conrad and they're superb. The best interior lighting I've seen.

As an aside, in the discussion above regarding 2.2's, everybody is sort of right. Later 2.2's (post '14?) are fitted with a Siemens alarm module that's different from the earlier Lucas. However, the voltage leakage that affects cheap LED's occurs in earlier models than that, both 2.2 and 2.4. Darren
