2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SW Alaska White

Trailer Warning Lamp Stays On

Hi all

Please forgive me in advance if an answer to this presents elsewhere

I have a 110 Defender (2011 Puma)
Driving on a fairly lengthy gravel road yesterday (about 400km) the trailer lamp on the dashboard, which normally only illuminates when my 4x4 trailer is connected (which it wasn't) came on and now remains on when the vehicle is running, despite the trailer not even being connected or my not using the indicators at all.
I'm totally confused as I haven't changed any bulbs or fiddled with the electrics at all.
I connected the trailer this morning and the trailer lights worked perfectly but when I disconnected the trailer the trailer warning lamp still remained on.
I'm not electrically/ electronically educated at all and intend to take it in to an auto electrician, but before I do so, has anyone else experienced this/ have any advice?

You may have a faulty Flasher unit. (YWT500050 - RELAY FLASHER UNIT)
Could be loose internal contacts or short circuit due to vibrations. Cheers, Vincent

Check trailer socket back for water to start with

See if your flasher unit has a little knob on it. if it has turn it a little to turn the trailer light off.

Hi guys
Thx so much for all your insights.
I've gone as far as replacing the entire trailer connector at the back of the vehicle (as I did find water in it), but despite this and the fact that all the flickers and light functionality on both the Defender and the trailer are perfect, the trailer warning lamp on the dash still remains permanently on when the ignition is turned on.
It's booked to go in to my local Land Rover specialist tomorrow morning.
I'll let you know the outcome in due course.

Hi again
So in it went on Friday and as they couldn't find the problem I was requested to take it in again today.
I got it back, late this afternoon.
It was established that there had been a short in the wiring in the main loom under the vehicle which had also caused the relay to require replacement.
All sorted!
