Been making progress - finished all 4 doors off, they all needed some sort of tlc on the frames, especially the drivers side second row door however they all solid now and have all had they fair share of dintrol.
Also being tidying up the rear axle including new shocks, making new brake pipes up, fitting a braided flexi and cleaning up the crusty calipers. Done the near side, and in the process of doing the same on the drivers side. Also ordered a pair of dive shaft flanges as there was quite a bit of play in the originals. Made up a set of brake pipe brackets as I thought the 7odd quid for a mild steel band was a bit too much. Made mine out of stainless attached one and will do the other when the axle stand is moved.

Also started on removing the front wings, mainly so I can get at the chassis to clean and protect it as well as tidy the engine bay up. Came across this hole as well in the footwell so with the wing out of the way I can repair it

Also noticed that the intercooler looks to be a non standard size as the front grill has been cut to allow it to fit

So there is still a bit to do including doing a proper job of the pipe work for the snorkel which has seen its fair share of silicone sealant Rolling Eyes and cleaning up the front calipers which look worse than the rear ones but at least the dust shields aren't rotten like the back ones. 1999 300TDI 110 CSW BMW 3.0

Progress has slowed somewhat over the past month or so.

Managed to get the front seats back in as I needed the space in the garage, also cleaned up the the seat belts and the brackets. Fitted the interior roll back back into place only after I realised that the rear seats would have to come out again Big Cry to allow for the hoop to go into place.
So interior wise the only major things left to do is to sound proof and fit the new carpet which will be a month or too before funds will allow.

I've also removed the front o/s brake caliper which was a pig of a job thanks to rounded off bolt heads. Fortunately though I was able to weld some nuts on the heads to allow for removal. So along with the caliper most stuff on that side is either painted or seen some dintrol. Also ordered some new front shocks as the old ones locked past their best

Had a bit of of clean up on the underneath of the bonnet and against the bulkhead, there's a few grommets etc that would benefit from being replaced so that's a few more items on the list.

Thanks, new caliper bolts have been ordered , and wing bolts will be replaced with stainless. New front shocks arrived today so will aim to get that fitted and then the wing can go back on hopefully by the weekend. Then do everything again for the passenger side !
Also thinking that a new set of black sawtooths might finish everything off nicely 1999 300TDI 110 CSW BMW 3.0

Been quite productive the last couple of weeks, first off I refitted the sill on the the drivers side, I repainted the chequer plate and dintrol the rear of the sill. Managed to use all stainless fittings as well

Next up I took the front left hand wing off and was greeted by this

This hadn't seen any love for a while, so like the other three calipers it came off and was rust treated and painted. Also took off the disc, and dust shield and gave them a like of paint as well. Getting the caliper off was a bit of a task thanks to the mounting bolts being rounded off Sad however I managed to weld a nut to the head of the bolt and it eventually gave up and came out.
Also removed the shock tower which was particular crusty. Painted and dintrol them then refitted them with new shocks as well as braided brake hoses on the caliper.

Cleaned and regreased the wheel bearings, also found play in the king pin which will have to be sorted along with the seal on the swivel which is leaking, however these along with the cambelt will be sorted by a friend in the next few weeks prior to the mot. 1999 300TDI 110 CSW BMW 3.0

Cheers Clayton, I reckoned that working through it all now and replacing the parts that need it, saves more hassle further down the line. Downside it that I've only drove it once and that was on the day I bought it. On the upside it's nearly sorted so should be on the road end of May. 1999 300TDI 110 CSW BMW 3.0

Looking great there fella, I am toying with the idea of replacing my front calipers for ones that can take vented discs. I bet the driver side wing was a bit of a pain to remove! Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Thanks all for the encouragement.

Procta - Drivers side wing was the worse, more so as it was the first to be took off and finding out where all the bolts/ fasteners were made it more time consuming- plus having to use the angle grinder on most of them. No worries as all stainless fiittings now is use. 1999 300TDI 110 CSW BMW 3.0

From what I have seen in videos on how to remove a wing on a Defender, the driver side is the far more hardest, due to everything practically bolting on to it.

Are you using stone chip too? Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

The main thing that makes it difficult is the corrosion on the fasteners, on mine removing the header tank, diesel filter and pipe work to the snorkel wasn't that bad.
Not using stone chip, gone down the dintrol ml / 4941 route on the chassis and inner wings. For the rear also I've got some pliable plastic sheet that I'll make inner wheel arches for 1999 300TDI 110 CSW BMW 3.0
