285 60 18's or 285 65 18's? - Cooper, Grabber or BFG's?
Hi All,
Finally got a 110 xs Utility arriving next week with just a few mods being done Wink

It currently has 18" Manta wheels with 285 60 18 Cooper LTZ's which will need changing... would anyone recommend a different option or size? 65's? Cooper, Grabber or BFG AT's?

Cheers

Nick

Coopers were in short supply recently apparently?

http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic49013.html?highlight=poole

From my experience Coopers are noisy as hell. Personal choice for me are BFGs as they have a good reputation for longevity and are definitely quieter than the Coopers. The above opinions are obviously dependent on use and style of tyre preferred. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

A 265/65R18 will give you the same diameter as the standard fit 235/85R16 or 265/75R16.

You say "will need changing" but don't say why? Choice of tyre will be mostly decided on how you use it? James

They are down to about 4-5mm and i want a new set on before the winter. not to mention they look better!

The current LTZ's are 285 60 18's

Less availability but i have seen 285 65 18's and wonder if they would look and or work better? i think about 32.6" ish vs 31.5"

I've got 285/65R18 KO2s on my 110, on Twisted ET10 wheels, so essentially the same as the Manta wheels, and I'd recommend them. They fill the arch a bit better than the 60 profile.

Thanks all!

Looks like the 65's are very limited in the UK Sad just cooper AT3's.. Was hoping for the bfg's.. Clearly one of you has them but maybe only on some countries Sad

Does anyone know where to get these in the UK?

100% cooper over BFG,

The ride difference is so much better;

i just changed from 285/65/r18 bfg's to the 285/60/r18 Cooper....

Now i dont Question myself every time i try to use my big brakes in the wet...

I think I saw another thread where you got the Cooper Zeons?

I'm after 285/65/18 to be a little bigger then the 285/60/18.

Where did you get the coopers from? What are they like in the mud compared to the BFG'? And how much did you find them for?

Also where did you find your BFG's.

Cheers

Yan

I would suggest that the BFG is going to be the toughest out of the three (And I think it looks the best), the LTZ is supposed to have the best road manners though

The Baja boys love the General Grabber AT though (not at2/at3) 1993 200 Tdi 90 CSW

Silverline had them in stock, about the best price and next day delivery...

My Bfg's i bought a few years ago from Harolds in Penrith; i've only had them on a week so can't comment too much about there off road, but i've done about 400 miles and i'd never go back to BFG AT's after driving these.

I'll post a pic later comparing how they look, i actually prefer the coopers now.

What are you looking at doing with the tyres? Do you travel off road, overland? Mud plugging at the weekends? 99% road driving? I personally run BFG KM2 285/75/16 which are spot on off road and drive pretty well on the road. They'd last forever if they didn't get a bit cut up by rocks on some of the terrain it goes on. But it's a bit of a plaything car. What do you want to use yours for?
