Found an old video from Morocco
With the nights drawing in and the weather taking a turn for the worse I thought I would share this old video I made about 6 years ago after our second independent trip to Morocco. Please excuse the quality, it was all filmed on a little compact digital camera and I am definitely no video editing guru either. Hopefully it will give a flavour of the type of driving and scenery you can expect on a trip over there, especially if you organise the trip yourselves and get away from the standard 'tour guide' routes.

If you are toying with the idea of a trip to North Africa but are not sure of how to go about it, then you could do worse than to come along to the Big Outdoors next month

Mountain Man,....EXCELLENT video.
Jeez, you were in some remote & rugged locations, especially that mountain rd & the river bed. In such locations, what would happen if something serious happend, like a blown head gasket, broken diff etc?
Seriously good scenery. Thanks for posting, Pickles.

To be fair, nowhere in Morocco is a huge distance from civilisation. And with 4 trucks in a group you are pretty safe in terms of recovery to somewhere sensible. The mountain road followed by the river bed was a bit of a highlight. I had mapped the route out from Google Earth as being a gravel track we could (hopefully) follow on the ground. The trouble was that a couple of months earlier the area had suffered massive flooding from snow melt and the track through the gorge had been largely washed away. We were able to drive on the odd remnant of it but for the greater part it really was just driving along a riverbed. Thing is, the track soon became good again once through the narrow gorge part and I guess after another mile or so we went through a village with farms and tractors, etc. Probably the most remote part was the long sandy climb after driving along the beach. That really did have the potential to ruin your day. The climb nearly beat most of the vehicles on first attempt. The only alternative had we failed was to back track for about 40 miles.

MInd you, I have just remembered the bit where we crossed a dried lake in the south of the country. It was basically a few hours driving through mini dunes with no defined track at all. Each truck took a turn in front until it got bogged down in the sand, got pulled out backwards while another truck found another route and took point till they got stuck. We were literally in the middle of nowhere and after a few hours of this it did begin to get a bit worrying if we would ever get to solid level ground again. Happy days Smile

I know my D3 struggled in that section of the trip. Being the heaviest truck by far. And that wasn't just because I was sat in it Rolling with laughter

But as Tim states, 4 trucks, 8 blokes and god knows how many years of experience with offroad driving between us. I for one was very pleased when we found some firmer terrain to drive on. No fun being stuck in soft sand when you're the heaviest and 1 Defender isn't enough to pull you out Shocked Big Cry I was glad that Tim and James both had winches fitted. 110 D250 SE HT
