well I would then be asking why, assuming the picture shows how little the damage is, that the car can be written off?

It might be one for the police if it's clear cut as it sounds like a potential fraud. V8 90...WIP

I'm absolutely sure there's something fishy going on but presumably for the owner to take what I deem to be a dodgy course of action they're looking to benefit from it;

either they had no insurance?

or they're looking to gain financially from it (but I can't see how)?

I'll dig the photos out latter.

well if their car was written off and was of high value, they got a full payout for the car less excess, and bought it back for a tithe of its value.... instant big profit. if the repairs were minor they probably didn't even bother repairing it V8 90...WIP

I had a similar occurrence as per the thread starter my insurance was with Direct Line.

With one difference a car deliberately reversed into me at traffic lights and then accused me off driving into them. They claimed for damage to their car, whiplash, a bruised spleen and the female occupant even claimed for a bruised breast.

However what the couple of con artists did not know and what I supplied Direct Line with was Dash Cam footage of the whole thing. The claim was rejected.

I did ask Direct Line if they had contacted the police over what was a fraudulent claim, their answer was, they could not tell me, no matter how hard I pressed for information I never received an answer.

I swear by Dash Cams they take all the hassle out of who was at fault and on this occasions saved my No Claims and a lot of hassle. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Seems like it's been settled 50/50.
To say I'm a little miffed is a serious understatement.

Can anyone tell me if I'm within my rights to ask for documentation relating to / backing up the decision to right the car off.

I presume also the vehicle will now be registered as a class something or other ie written off?

Gilarion, did you not involve the Police yourself?

no I didn't (you mean at the time of the incident?)

the other party were going to drive off due to so little damage and I wasn't very interested as there was no damage to mine (the rubber cap on the bumper wasn't even marked) and I saw it to be entirely their fault so was completely in interested in the incident.

I've now asked for evidence of the driver being insured to drive the vehicle,
and asked for evidence of documentation concluding the vehicle was written off.

the vehicle seems to have vanished ?

I am so completely amazed / disappointed at this. it just goes to show there's scumbags out there not only defrauding the system but individuals such as myself (and the wider community of decent people) having to pay the price. I am not exaggerating here but I could have done more damage with my knee and the occupants have suffered person injures!

blood and boil !

.... and just for a laugh how about this. all double yellow lines AND the council are on top of the parking here - I've had it in writing..... (can't seem to upload the photo but it doesn't need too much of an imagination - lots of cars all parked on double yellows on main road and ignored by parking enforcement)

Always take photos and try and get the owners of the other car in the photos if possible. This makes it very hard for them to claim a car needed writing off. Ray
