Roof Bars for Defender 90
Hi All

I have run out of time to do the roof rack and roof box build now, so I am looking at roof bars now, all I can see are these, is that it?

https://roofracks.co.uk/Thule-Fit-Guide/_-...s&id=3

They look very thin and un-aerodynamic, are there any others or are these OK?

JD

Edit......found these as well.....anyone got them?

http://www.rhinoroofracks.com/land-rover/d...er-90.html

Edit....I'll probably order those Rhino Delta bars unless anyone has anything bad to say about them, need to oder tonight Smile

Look nice also, and a thule or Exodus roof box will fit those bars OK?

Thanks

I have fitted the Vanguard ones to my 90 they seem well made and have been on my roof for three years now with no issues. I did cut 4 or 5 inches off of the width of mine as they stuck out to far. 2005 Td5 90 XS

Hi johnnyd

Your asking the right question, but I don't know how the two Roof Boxes you mention are designed to secure to bars...they may only like specific bars (their own make for example) I used ss eye bolts from van guard which have a spread area of about 20mm diameter, and screw directly into the 'retaining elements' of the van guard bars...look at the accessories for these bars and you can see all the bits and pieces available. So my OEM Land Rover Roof Box is held on by 12 ss eye bolts internally (within the box) / 4 per bar and I went for 3 to be 'optimal' on a 90. As with most things its worth thinking through and looking carefully at what you have and how it 'wants' to secure to 'these' bars.

At least you have given yourself enough time... Shocked (sorry) SKIP

We have just done a 4000 mile trip in the 110 with similar Thule roof bars to those in your link (mine have 2 knobs per foot) and a Thule roof box fitted to the bars using the U bolt clamp type thingy. No problems with it whatsoever, although actually getting to the stuff in the box needed a bit of acrobatics. Good job we had the bars set towards the back of the car and the roof box to one side so I could use the rear wheel to stand on to get access. I wouldn't worry too much about the aerodynamics - they match the car in that regard.

We had a recemt customer rental (beautiful 110 Heritage) who had a pair of the Rhino bars. Worked well for his week rental for him & wife plus dog carrying 1 of our rooftents.

Although not flat I'd not worry - as said before they the Defender lack of aerodynamics!
They actually looked good on the vehicle and seemed strong and we'll made & excellent value.
