Changing from Muds 285 to All Terrains 265 on ZU alloys
Hi Guys

Currently I have 285/75 16 BFG Mud Terrains (on from when I purchased the 110) and want to change to All Terrains.

I plan to change to the 265/75 16 BFG KO2 All Terrain as I don't need the mud terrain and I do a lot of long distances through France etc.. and feel that the 285/75 16 in Mud Terrain is making everything work harder and are noisy.

I think (not sure if I am right) that the 265 in all terrain will be kinder to the transmission and will be quieter as well as more fuel efficient..... although loaded with roof tent and a full rack doesn't help that! I also want a snow rated tyre.

Firstly is my thinking flawed? secondly I have ZU alloys - will the 265's be OK on them?

Any comments/help gratefully received

Cheers all

Your thinking is all correct.
235s would help even more, but would only be an option if you have the 7" ZUs rather than the 8" ones.
How snow rated are you talking about? The mountain symbol?

Hi

Cheers for your help.

Apparently the KO2 has the snow rating required to be legal in Germany etc... during the winter. I don't anticipate heavy snow use but you never know!! I have read that the KO2 has the snowflake symbol.

I will check the ZU's

Trying not to put aesthetic over function but I quite like the look of the larger width even though as you say the 235's would be even better.

Hi Simon,
I swapped from 255/85 KM2s to 285/75 KO2's and they do have the proper winter rating snowflake.
they are SOOOO much quieter on the road and much better behaved on the ice and snow.

Haven't noticed any difference in fuel economy.

running the on 8x16 Twisted alloys.
