Back from Trip to Annecy France 1850 miles
Have to say a little bit concerned taking the Defender on this trip, done it many times in 'normal' cars...

Its a fair way, we drive from Cheshire to Canterbury on one day and then the next morning get the Ferry.. Its then 520 miles to the house a fair way in any car...

Defender did it with ease and we were all impressed how well it coped, more comfortable than I thought. 65 to 70 mph happy. saw 90 at one point, but not happy at that speed.

Mpg over the trip was around 27mpg and coming back it was FULL !!

Great holiday,

Looks like a great trip, we are currently in Tuscany in ours. If you've not already, seriously consider fitting cruise control makes the French motorways easy

Beautiful photos !!

^ That's the one thing I do miss from my previous cars.

It wasn't too bad... I will look at getting it though.. some more. I was stooped by the French police on the way to the ferry, but only as he had a landy and pointed to there's parked up Smile

I love long distance threads. Vehicles love being up to temp and used regularly.

We drove to Italy and back last year in ours and lived it. Only once or twice did a D4 cruise past at 85+ and I dreamed Whistle 1951 80" S1 2.0

Great pics. Was cycling round the lake last week with Mrs Grenadier. Lovely spot, if a little busy with tourists at this time of year, Defender owners an exception Whistle Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

^ I was up at 6.30am as I knew it was busy having ridden in with the kids...

I come off near where they launch the boats and get on at the casino. Happy with my time. Only hard core cyclist at that time but lovely watching the mist rise off the lake and hot air balloons taking off.. I averaged 18.6mph so I was happy with that.

Used my dads bike he leaves at the House (his n+1), awesome bit of Kit Colnago C60 Carbon with Campag Super record carbon groupset. Makes me look good Smile

Seats I kept in, as a) hassle to take out / in and kids like to use them (when they can), also acted as natural shelf for stuff above it. Yes it was full, even gaps behind where the back seats fold had stuff Smile

Previous owner of mine used it to do summer camping trips to France, Italy and beyond. 12 up, roof rack full, and a laden Sankey behind!

Well maintained, there's no reason they can't go anywhere.

Off Topic Do like Colnago, still think they're my favourite of the traditional 'big' names (Trek, Giant, Bianchi, Specialized, Pinarello etc) as opposed to the new breed of on-line niche makers such as Felt, Canyon etc. Beautiful, beautiful bikes.

Indeed on the latter point, amazed by how many of the niche brands are well represented at this year's Olympics. Quite an increase....

And for those who love cycling, Italian culture and happen to be in Milan in the near future, do pop into the Bianchi café. Get to see their best creations, (maybe buy one?), enjoy a fab Espresso and even have your bike tuned. Great spot, right in the heart of Milan...

Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

Took the defender to Annecy last year via Paris with outboard on the back and small inflatable. Agree with Bpman about having cruise control it makes motorway driving much more relaxed
