1995 Defender v8
Can anyone with a South African spec v8 Defender 110 from 1995 confirm which gearbox it has, as in LT77s or R380? I've heard it's meant to be an LT77s but it looks like it's inside an R380 transmission tunnel which is making me unsure. 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon

If you look underneath an LT77 will have two drain plugs

"Easy way to tell is the position of reverse – if it’s towards the driver and back, it’s R 380" --

I haven't got access to a South African Defender to check for myself. I'm asking for someone in South Africa who has access to a '95 Defender v8 to see what gearbox is used. If it was that easy I wouldn't need to ask Rolling Eyes 1999 Land Rover Defender 110 td5 station wagon

South Africa 2010 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 SW Alpine White
by all accounts, it's the R380:

From 1994 the Defender had either the 300TDi or the 3.5 V8, in South Africa only. Both had the then new R380 gearbox. --
2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear
2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged

South Africa 2011 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 SW Stornoway Grey
It should most certainly have a R380. All CSW variants had them.
