200/30tdi inter compatibility
Hi guys, the 200 tdi defender engine in my 130 is tired, looking around my best bet for a Cost effective solution is a discovery engine from a donor disco. Now the 300 is far more plentiful, but will my defender turbo/ inlet/ exhaust gubbins fit on it to keep things kosher? I'm presuming on a 200 they definately are? I've had straight disco lumps in previous defenders and can't be doing with it all being 'not quite right'..

Many thanks in advance

I don't know about swapping bits 200 - 300 but I know the defender / disco manifolds are different, Defender being 'high turbo' the disco being low

I don't think many parts are interchangeable 200 - 300

Yes I want my defender high turbo on the disco lump, then I keep standard exhaust and am able to change a starter motor without dislocating my wrist...!

I wouldn't worry too much about the starter motor, once you remove the induction pipe from the turbo you have more than enough access to get to it, I have hands best described as shovels and I can change a starter easily. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

I cursed and swore last time mash, had to take exhaust off to get it out, plus I've got all the 'right' gear so would really like to go with that rather than a Steve Parker exhaust etc etc...

Swap your manifolds, timing case etc onto the disco lump. Done a few, not difficult. Much better than piddling around with s shaped downpipes and all that palaver . Depending on the age of your 200s you might have to swap the oil filter housings to keep your oil cooler pipe threads right but that's no biggy.

Defo wouldn't go down the 300 route
