Rear door courtesy light switch

I have tried a search but all relevant diagrams are too old to download
I wish to operate a new interior light in the back of my 90 with a new rear door courtesy switch - nothing there at present
Also no factory fitted alarm (although lots of other security layers

)
Could someone please explain the wiring for the light through a rear switch

Some posts say the switch is the earth but the interior lights have two purple wires and one black wire so I am confused
Also what controls the dimming of the light and if its the ECU do I need to take a live feed from there ?
Any advice greatly appreciated

One purple wire is alarm controlled live with door open. One purple wire is permanent live and the black is earth. The rear door switch needs to be the same as the front, single wire earthed when door open. You can tee into the passenger door switch wire or there might be one running up the drivers side a pillar under the plastic trim... 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Makes sense - but still confused
From back door an earth wire will run through door switch up to light ?
Permanent live easy to wire in
Purple with white line - live when door open - how do I re create this for the back door ?

The earth wire for the trigger needs to be wired to the wire that runs to the back of one of the front door switches. Then the two purple wires need to be connected to the lamp. This way the rear lamp will come on / fade off as per the front. 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon
