Dover Delays
No doubt you holiday making types will have noticed that there have been 7-hr delays at Dover due to increased French border checks due to the heightened security state. Don't believe the hype. Since the Nice attacks I have crossed the French border four times into Switzerland, (over three different crossings) and twice into Italy and will be doing so again tomorrow and Monday. No change whatsoever. Standard delays into Geneva because of volumes of traffic, but otherwise straight through. No delays at all into Italy.

In my opinion I think the Dover delays are entirely a Brexit issue. Let's be honest, if the French security services are doing their job properly (and despite the attacks I am sure they are) there will be no threat from the UK. Any cross border threat will come from Belgium, Germany etc, or from movement corridors originating in Greece and Turkey. Indeed if they wanted to do any security checks in Calais they'd be best off doing so in the refugee camps where their might be attempts at radicalisation. But someone coming from the UK into France? Really? Sadly I think this will be the first of many mini 'wars', (state policies), foisted upon us by our European cousins of which the French government will be at the forefront. To add, I have crossed the Spanish and Andorra border without any noticeable change in numbers of police or delays.

It is of course extremely suspicious all those cars with the steering wheel at the wrong side trying to enter continental Europe. Must be a complot of sorts in the making. We need to sharply increase security checks of those wrong side steered vehicles and their occupants speaking that strange sounding language. Cool

Possibly but it can work both ways and may stop people visiting Britain. Short sightedness on all sides of this fiasco sadly.

If it's what the majority of England wanted it's not really a fiasco on our side Whistle Ray

I think that now the UK is planning to leave the EU and will no longer be bound by their laws and diplomatic ties, the French think we're going to invade them again.... Whistle Monsieur Le Grenadier

Why would we (the real eastern neighbours) want to do that? Shocked The french don't like us, but we do not love them enough either to want to invade them. Laughing

Seems this weekend indeed a massive (br?)exit from the UK into France. And the French authorities are blaming the UK police for those massive traffic jams on the Dover side, because of lack of UK cooperation with the checking of all UK origin cars and their occupants before entering continental Europe.
Reported even on our local news here with pictures like the one below....
