United Kingdom 2002 Defender 110 Td5 PU Alveston Red
Friction modifier in R380 gearbox.
Gentlemen, can I have your advice please.

I have an 02 Defender TD5 110 which has only had little use over the past six years, less than 400 miles. Total mileage is 110K. When I bought it everything was fine but I covered 1000 miles init in 4 weeks and started to hear a grumble in 5th gear only with power on, no noise on the overrun.

I've had it looked at today and the expert opinion is that the noise is nothing more than resonance from a bearing carrier and needs no more attention than a gearbox drain, flush and refill with MTF94.
However I have also been advised to investigate adding a friction modifier to the lubricant and to research which one would be best.

There are a few out there - eg Molyslip and others but can any of you recommend a suitable product, please?

Thank you
