Best battery....
Hi all. I need a new battery for my 2001 td5 90. It has a few gadgets fitted, in the way of led light bars, audio, cb etc... Can anyone recommend a good battery, and also whether it is round or flat terminals, as i haven't taken my bucket seat out yet to take a look

Regards,
Chris

If it's a single battery your after what about an Odessey PC1750, I believe they have round SAE terminals so almost a straight swap.

Someone will be along to confirm Thumbs Up Russell

I have used VARTA batteries for the last 15 years, never had any problems with them and seem long lasting.

For normal usage I wouldn't bother with special needs like optima, odyssey etc.

Numax, enduroline leisure batts from Tayna will give a good 900cca, 100ah for around £75. Numax cf31 iirc will fit. Cheers

I'd agree with JST, Numax/Enduroline are a good quality, good value for money battery.

If you have a Costco card, then the Bosch batteries - S5 or S6 I think - are a good price and the warranty is 4 years.

Cheers

Any good named battery with at least 3 years warranty, but go for a battery with the highest Ah capacity with the highest Cold Cranking Amps you can find. The standard defender batteries are usually 70 Ah, but go for at least 100 Ah and possibly 110 Ah. And with at least a Cold Cranking Performance (Amps) of 850. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

About a year ago I put a Hankook calcium battery on my TD5, good warranty, very good price and seem to be well regarded brand now, early to tell but I it seems to have massive reserves of power.
Measured up and put the biggest one which would fit, then sat it on a thin polystyrene tille about 6mm thick.
One tip is to look for a reputable scrap yard locally, took my old battery to Ripon and received a £10 bonus towards my new battery, ever little helps. Ray

I see you're Gloucester based. You could try contacting Battery Megastore in Tewkesbury for a price. I've bought the last half a dozen or more batteries (no, not all for the Land Rover), there and been happy with them. I noticed they had Optima batteries in a display when there the other week getting a new battery for my Transit based motor home.

Regarding the Bosch batteries. I installed one in the FF as there is limited space in the compartment and they came highly spoken of in fullfatrr.com.

Well several months later it was working fine but ended up dropping it a bit hard on its corner when I removed it and cracked it. Needed a replacement quick and popped down the local hardware place (has a lot of stuff being in West Wales) and bought, I think it was, a Yuasa of the same spec. Half the price and in the cold months turned over the 3.6 far more readily than the Bosch. Since then others have reported similar feelings of being underwhelmed by the Bosch batteries. Particularly at their price.

Got a 019 100Ah 1000CCA battery from my local Manbat supplier for the 110 for just over £100 and it has been superb so far (8 months or so). Ed
