Will give it a go hopefully enough flex for the wire.

On my camera there are two red wires and one black to go to the reverse light. Instructions seem to suggest connecting the two red together and then joining the live at the reverse light. Presume the black goes to the negative???

In your pics it looks like you have a red from the camera going to both the positive and negative?

Have my yellow jack connected to the head unit but not sure where the bare red needs to go, presume one of the holes on the block connector?

Some direction would be much appreciated.

Two red would suggest to me, one permanent live, the other turn on live from reverse feed.
If they were both permanent live cam would be on all the time.
Some people like to have a Cam live with HU on only so they can use it as a rear cam as well as a reverse cam if that makes sense.
Black is common earth...

Do the two red wires have any tracer colours at all?

when i wired my camera in, there was a permanent live which kept the camera active and a switched live (from reverse light/a switch/ whatever you desire to switch it) which activated the screen. if you attach them both to the switched live it might take longer for the screen to come on, this is what I found any way.

Sorry I've no idea really with the wires, I'm doing it according to the badly written Chinese to English translated instructions.

I'm hoping mine will turn on when its plugged in, but really not sure Smile

Anyway screen arrived today, looks quite nice, maybe a little shiny as the 4.3" version was Matt, but I wanted the 5" for better screen resolution. (may have to gloss the interior trim soon...)

As this has the ability to have two camera inputs I'm OK with the Yellow and white lead as the Yellow on this screen will connect to the yellow from the camera.

The red Power cable (in the picture) which then connects to the back splitting to Red and black I guess needs to go to 12V in the car somewhere that only switches on with ignition and off when key out (such as Cigarette lighter)

I'm still confused where this wire goes from the camera at the other end?

What's the easiest way to tap in to a 12v that come on with ignition and off with key? If its the cigarette lighter how do I get to it.

You could use HU ignition power, as a cam only draws milliamps.
Myself personally I'd use the lighter feed and fit a lower in-line fuse.

Usually the RCA connectors are color coded like: Yellow: Composite video, Red & White: Audio. So you only use the Yelllow one for the rear camera for now. If you also want to use the screen for video playback with other equipment (e.g. Video iPod) then use the Red & White also.

I guess the red wire coming with the yellow connector from the rear camera is for activating the screen and/or camera if rear gear is selected (when connected to the rear light or gearbox connector). Cheers, Vincent

Thanks happy with the Yellow from Camera going to the yellow to the screen

With the Red wire from the camera (with the yellow) do I need to connect this? it didn't say anything in the book.

As at the camera end at the rear there is also a red wire unconnected (which came off the yellow)

My plan will be to connect the screen with power from say the cigarette lighter and then just plug the yellow camera lead in?

I've got the camera powered buy the reversing light so should come on when I engage reverse?

Thanks in advance

Stacey,

As I found in de Q & A Section this other red wire (emerging from the yellow connector) is to use for another 12V source, as with some cars (I guess modern can bus systems) the power from the rear light bulb is not powerful enough to power the camera. So I guess in your case just ignore it - or you could connect it to a switched 12V (with a switch on the dashboard), so you can manually switch the camera on even if you are not in reverse (I have wired mine this way, and I find it useful with towing another car, I can have a view on slowly tensioning the towing cable - but then my camera is in the middle position above the door). Cheers, Vincent

OK so nice day and left early to Have a go.

Stopped at a motor factors on way as googled I may need to remove the radio so to make it easier £2.50 for the pulley things.

So Started, removed radio

The hardest part was working out how to hide the cables from the camera coming up from the back and the screen power. I decided to make a tiny hole just above my glove box feed the cable through this through the glove box and then find it through the hole the now removed radio was.

Its only a thin wire so once cable pushed through and glove box shut this is what you see

The cable from the camera at the rear comes down the passenger headlining and then hidden behind the dashboard at the side (bulk head?) 2 screws taken out to make easier.
