Delayed throttle response
Hi all.

What could be causing a delayed response from the accelerator. 06 model, new injector loom fitted recently, no oil in connectors yet. All filters changed No problems cruising at motorway speed, but had to sit a 55 as could not risk pulling out to pass any one. Press accelerator wait for response and she will pull away no problem.

No problems at below 45/50 , example leaving motorway service station, accelerating to join, press throttle down and wait a few seconds for response !!!

Any thoughts ,suggestions

Edward.

I had a similar experience with mine a few weeks ago but mine was due to me coming out of a field and going from low to high box on the move, there is a difference in throttle response in low and high. It must have been a sticky switch on mine as when I was waiting outside the boys school at that dreaded time of day I went from high to low and back again and it was cured.
There are other posibilities such as MAF sensor, intercooler pipes collapsing, injector seals and washers. It may be worth getting a code reader to see if there are any faults logged.

Thanks for the replies.

Tried the high/low throttle response seems okay, there is a differential between the two positions.

The MAF sensor gives a reading of 2.05 volts, this seems to fall in the okay range as per the BAS sites test, checked the sensor on the intake manifold ,that has a light coating of oily residue ( cleaned approx 12 months ago,as had a heavy coating of residue).

The turbo hose that enters the inter cooler has some abrasion from the pipe entering the radiator, (see image) this will replace at the weekend.

Looked at the throttle body/pedal and have thoughts of spraying with contact cleaner, but how do you get at it ??.

Dorset Smith -- the EGR is fitted and its a water cooled version

Went into Bristol today and of course it max of 40mph and no problems apparent.

Fuel is Tesco with 250ml of 2 stroke oiladded at each fill up

At idle, when you press the accelerator do you much travel before the revs pick up? 1999 Defender TD5 110

Hi excossack

Pedal travel response seems normal, the problem is only noticeable at 45/50 mph in 5th, tried the high/low throttle response and it seems normal, that is as it shoud be.
