Is this worth the money??
I'd appreciate peoples opinions on this as I've sold my 90 and now looking for another - but something I'm less precious about, but it has to be reliable.

Went to have a good look around this yesterday, it's come from the Scilly Isles - last owner for about 10 yrs, it was used to pull boats around a yard and off the beach, hence needing a new chassis.

The lad who's done the work on it is a bit vague, the engine is not the original - it's been fitted with a '60k mile' 300tdi engine (no proof), Richards chassis, the interior's a bit unfinished, loose wires and a few things need tidying, the headlining's sagging badly and needs replacing, nice seats, tatty carpets, back door not wired up, stereo not wired etc.

Some of the original parts underneath are very rusty as you'd expect, the tubs been replaced, original axles etc.

Nice spray job but not much in the way of paperwork or proof of engine mileages etc, there's 95k on the clock which tallies with the MOT

What do you recon people?
Worth a punt or too much money for an unknown qty?

I'm afraid 10 grand for a butchered 300tdi is too rich for my blood.

It worries me that the bling stuff has been done but the basics haven't.

Just my humble opinion!!

From checking online it failed its MOT on the 4th March 2016 for both rear shock absorbers having excessively worn bushes. It then passed on the 8th April 2016.

As others have said, it looks good but what is being hidden or not shown would worry me for that money.

Just my thoughts

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated, I think I'll pass, my gut feeling tells me to as do your answers.
Paddie42 - how did you get that info just out of interest? Is it a motor trade thing or can anyone get hold of MOT info?

It's a lump of money for someone's half hearted attempt at a rebuild. I'm not sure, but with a new chassis, different engine and large amounts of body panels replaced this might potentially be enough for it to be a Q plate if DVLA (or whoever they are) were to look into it. I'd look for a decent 'honest' motor.

Have a search for Andyred90's advert...

It's bright (as in Orange!) and so might not be to everyone's taste but I suspect is in absolute apple pie order...

I ages with that.

A lot of scare mongers on here though. Chap has done an engine change and chassis just obviously doesn't like electrics. I would say it was honest, and not having documentation on the engine to show the 60k wouldn't worry me. I would want to see the new engine number on the v5 though.

Chaps done a few jobs, does the min to get an mot, made it look good and is chancing his arm on price to try and make some cash.
.

Just over priced but typical of what's about.. Cheers
