Depends how deep your pockets are Whistle

220+ bhp is achievable, and IIRC, there is/was a few up around 240bhp

Sounds like with a stage 4 you've got most of the bolt on bits sorted. Blue printed engine, ported and polished will see some some gains. Did alive custom map it ? if not some gains may be had there

Money no objet go for an engine change om606 conversion, LS v8, super chargers, nitrous, 3.2 etc

Mine's currently standard bar an EGR delete. How far can you go without changing loads/loads of cost?

I guess I/C, exhaust, remap and that should see 150-170?

Reliability is very important, and reliability carrying a full load of people + a trailer!!

RDT are an Alive agent already Thumbs Up

No doubt there will be a few BHP to be found with a map fine tuned on the dyno though

EGR delete centre box removed and a sports air filter for me plenty power Thumbs Up

Was looking at tuning but as I have a pre 2002 I'd need to change my ECU and my original transmission is getting tired with over 110k miles - functioning well still but remapping and a sports intercooler and 30-60bhp and it'd be knackered pretty quick I reckon. 2001 Td5 CSW (weekend and snow mobile) Plenty of lights, M/T tyres EGR delete, roofrack, swing away wheel carrier, snorkel.

Never mind the propane injection. Forget tuning too, 475BHP plus. Go to JE Motor Works and see what they could do for your TD5 if the chassis etc. is up to it, money is no object and you've a spare £70-£80k lying about in loose change and a sound vehicle to carry the mods out on. Engine transplant would be your best bet. Why are you trying to eak more out of it if you're sat at 220 already? Brakes etc. would also perhaps need to be given upgrade considerations too?

I'm not knocking you Foxing but why do you want more power ?

I like quick cars but never really wanted the defender to be that quick car, I love the defender as it is, nice to have it a bit quicker say 150bhp, but not sure I would want a car the size weight & engineering of a defender to have the performance of an RS3 Thumbs Up

I must be getting too old as I often look on here and wonder why do that to a defender Whistle 2020 P300 HSE

For a matter of interest, how fast if a td5 with 220hp, and how smokey?

I'm running Alive's stage 2 at the moment (Intercooler, exhaust, EGR delete, remap and that pressure sensor reduction box thingy), but they kindly turned down the tune at the top end due to the amount of smoke it was putting out.

Its still smokey under full load above 2500rpm, which they couldn't get to the bottom of (I should say it was only a brief look at the Billing show last year), bascially it wasn't flowing enough air, and changing the MAF didn't help.

I would guess I've got a solid 150-170hp which is fine for a Defender, and it will happily cruise at 70mph now, I just wish it didn't smoke as much.

try a bit of 2 stroke oil in the fuel, i have a stage 4 2.4 and it smokes a little (nothing bad at all) but the oil helps with a cleaner burn

theres 100's of threads on here which oil to use, I'm pretty sure its organic something or other...

There's a certain member on here, who 200+ bhp simply wasn't enough from a td5, so, money not being an object..
has gone for the 400bhp OM606 route Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Believe me, that thing will be awesome!!
But yeah, as said above, if I want speed, I just grab the keys to Mrs Greeni's estate!!
