It is however interesting that the photo aboe shows that these shafts are different to the early shafts shown in the linked thread, and not just machined differently. They are a different shape to any I have seen before.

No doubt LR PR would have you believe "They were developing to the very end of production"... Probably more like... "we've got these bit lying around", "Don't order any new ones..."
