300tdi Double Core Intercooler fitted
Yesterday, the Allisport Double Core Intercooler arrived. Beautifully made, by the way - and sooo shiny! Laughing

The Bonnet Slam Panel needed a bit of cutting and the nearside panel needed opening out to accommodate the extra depth.

I had tuned the FIP last week and it was still a bit smokey.

I haven't tuned the FIP any more yet but right now the engine seems 100% transformed. I can make progress down the road with less right foot and when I need the power it's right there - no hesitation. EGT is currently around 540 degC maximum but generally sits around 300 degC normal running.

I should've done this much earlier in my ownership but at £470, it seemed a bit steep. Now though, I've got to say I'm glad I bit the bullet. Thumbs Up

I'll try and edit to add some pics later - done. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Interesting reading.

I had read that if you did just the intercooler with no pump tweak it makes it ;less powerful as it is effectively under fuelling.

Will save up the pennies I think Thumbs Up Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

Before I started any tuning, I recorded 470 degC when absolutely canning it Twisted Evil

The FIP Pin was then turned, starwheel turned, smoke screw turned, then Starwheel was adjusted a wee bit to keep the smoke sensible. I left the nylon washer/spacer in place for now.
It was still a bit smokey on take-off and hard acceleration - so, probably still overfuelling. Max EGT was about 509 degC.

Then the Intercooler arrived so instead of faffing about with more FIP tuning to reduce smoke, I fitted the Intercooler.

I now have less smoke than before, but EGT is at 540 degC. I was expecting it to be lower TBH, but I'm quite happy with what it's doing. Nowhere near the figures of 690/700 degC quoted elsewhere. I also have a one box, free-flowing exhaust fitted so that should help keep the temp sensible.

If you are fitting this Intercooler, it needs more fuel than standard, but as I said, it was probably over-fuelled before I fitted it.

I'm sure I could tweek some more but very happy for now...then again, knowing myself, I'll tweek it again next week!!!! Rolling with laughter --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i guess the colder air is making more use of the fuel with it overfueled hence the higher EGT with the I/C.

if it has been std it could well of been lower i guess.

if it makes you feel better mine goes to 725.... Cheers
