Adjusting Puma Heater Fan Speeds
I have just taken delivery of a new 2.2 HT 90. Love it so far. One comment from swmbo is that the slowest setting (1) on the heater speed slide control is still too fast and quite noisy. Noisy, so what I say, but she has a point about the speed. Is there a way to adjust the settings on the control for the heater fan speed to make it run a bit slower on the first setting and then maybe adjust to an intermediate speed on the 2nd notch and leave 3 alone? Please bare in mind I am numpty with electrics, spanners great, but leccy stuff is double dutch to me.
Cheers Douglas

Try putting the slider to 0 and press the AC button, as this operates it at low speed. 2016 D4 HSE

Avelingporter, the thread below will at least comfirm that you (and I) are not alone on this....

http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic43156.html

....and thanks RRUK. I hadnīt spotted that! Now if I can find a way to steer the heater fan switch position one to use the AC speed, we will have a useable, and hopefully repeatable solution. Iīll have a look at the wiring diagram. 1998 Tdi 90 SW,

So is the AC on & heater at 0 actually a lower speed than the heater just at 1 then?

Who knows, other than having a fancy tool measuring air flow how would we know?

It is sort of daft though that even with the fan speed set to zero, the air con switch powers it up. No other cars do this! 2016 D4 HSE

Thanks RRUK and Wild Card 90. Again I hadn't thought of using the AC mode. But I usually try not to have the AC engaged to save fuel...well just a bit.
If you could have a look at the wiring Wild Card, would appreciate an idea from someone who might have more idea than me.
Cheers. D

On the way home today; I compared both settings - AC and position 1 heater fan.
I reckon they are one and the same.

I fell off mine I was so stunned by WC90's dedication to improving Defender ownership for the remainder of us.... Thumbs Up

I can picture the scene: A tidily spec'd 90 sitting in a German traffic jam (very clean, ordered and the world's only traffic jams that get you there on time, no doubt), and WC90 working through the configurations:

AC on. Listen. AC off.
Heating to speed 1. Listen. Heating Off.
And Repeat.
Maybe again, just for good measure.
Come to conclusion they're the same.
Consider results and post on forum.

A level of analysis, I think we would all agree, that would be worthy of the German giant Siemens.... Whistle Monsieur Le Grenadier

I dare say it would be possible to add some additional resistance into the circuit or to change the resistor pack but since we are talking about Defenders and not Rolls Royce why not just shove some cotton wool in the appropriate lugholes. I mean seriously, it's a truck. Steve.

If you fit a snow cowl it will significantly reduce the airflow with the fan on setting 1 (and 2 and 3)! Desn't help the noise though.
