Buzz at 2500 revs
New to the forum but not to Defenders, having owned a 300tdi, a beautiful black TD5 110 xs that made way for my first new Landrover.

Up to 1200 miles covered and just started to notice a loud buzzing that seems to be coming from the middle of the car at exactly 2500 revs - in every gear. Going past 2500 revs the buzzing stops. Now for reasons of fuel economy I am not hugely prone to revving its bits off (I leave that for the motorcycle) but sometimes you do need to give it a bit of a shove.

Any ideas?

Have found this forum extremely useful eg I thought the intake noise was too loud at tickover but reading on here "they all do that sir" so saved a trip to the dealer.

Other than the above have been absolutely delighted with it. A much better driving experience than my old 110 and in a different league to the 300tdi obviously. Love the engine, six speed (but not the low first gear) and general refinement. Wouldn't swap it for anything.

Check to see if the bolt for the turbo heat sheild is missing, its readily accessiable and visable on the top of the manifold at the rear of the engine.

Well sorted.

I figured it wasn't a terminal noise.

I am not surprised that it took you two weeks to track it down

What ever happened to the concept of Loktite? Rolling Eyes

I've jury rigged a washer and a longer 10mm bolt until the dealer can deal with it.

All quiet for now. Very Happy

Guys I'm ashamed to say my mechanical expertise can just about see me check the oil and water and where to put the diesel in. Embarassed

Sometimes a 10 hour time difference has its advantages - when you (UK) guys are at work, we (AUS) are sitting around bored with nothing else to do but spout random knowledge on-line. Just checked mine out as I was getting a reverberating sound and guess what the bolt had come out. There was one there to start with as you could see where the washer had marked the heat shield. Fitted a new bolt with loctite so I will see if it stays in.

I don't know if Loctite will work because of the heat??? Strange how many have come out, must have been a stuff up on the production line?? If my one comes loose again I think I'll drill a hole in the bolt head and lockwire it in.

Just read this post and had not check oil for 1500 mile last Tuesday and when did check it i see that the bolt was missing to so just put new s/s bolt in with big flat washer and a good heavy duty spring washer also it's a m8 bolt thread not m10 as one_iota said would think you was going by the spanner size you use on the head Question
seems like LR should do something about this bolt to stop them all falling out Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation Exclamation

I found the exact same problem on Japseronys car last week,
i was lucky eniough to notice it as i was fitting a Decat front pipe and replaced the bolt as per.

I did think to my self at the time it seems weird that there is no bolt in there but obviousley there is a problem with these coming out.
