What is this?
Having a general poke about the motor today, I noticed this is a bit gunky with oil. My questions are this - what is it, does it need replaced if there is gunky oil round about it, should there indeed even be oil in amongst it? Is it an indication of other problems, or something more serious going on?? I look forward to hearing from those much more engine savvy than I - which is probably everyone on here Rolling with laughter Cheers.

Thanks for the replies, if it's something that is going to happen 'regularly', I think I'll order one from Dan and just change it over, keep the other as a spare once I've cleaned it out. Cheers Thumbs Up

Hi All, mine is in a similar gunky mess on the outside, just looking for some advice from the engine guru's Smile . Can the valve fail internally and create the oily residue on the outside? Are there any symptoms if one fails? Should they be replaced at any stage in the engines life? Mine has 82k on the clock and I'm sure it's not been replaced before. Thanks Andy
