United Kingdom 2008 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Manual Java Black
Bell Auto Services Switchable Re-Map

Having spent some time with Pete from BAS I thought it worthwhile mentioning what a decent guy he is and how good, professional and knowledgeable he is at work Bow down

It is untrue how much of his time is spent offering friendly & reliable advice not only to his dealers but to customers of other dealers with a problem or people that have had chips/re-maps done by others etc.

He has recently fitted to my Defender TDCi, the new switchable re-map system and then he showed me how easy it is to switch from one map to the other i.e. from standard to the increased power re-map and then back again etc.

Having now driven the vehicle for some 1500 miles with the new map on, I can honestly say it is like a different vehicle altogether Very Happy Very Happy

She seems to breathe better, sits at motorway speeds less stressed than before and has the ability to pull in any gear from a low RPM. This includes sitting on a motorway using 6th only right down to about 40 MPH and then pulling up to 70 MPH without the need to change gear or even feel the need to change gear Thumbs Up Prior to the re-map she would pull from 40 MPH but it seemed like you were in a lake of glue or something Sad

When chatting to Pete it is clear that his knowledge is vast and he has a great understanding of what usable power actually is. As an example, on my recently sold Disco I had a JEF re-map and larger intercooler on it. The stage one re-map was done first, and yes whilst it had an effect, the extra power was not there when you needed it, but just when you did not need it anyomre it gave you a kick up the rear Exclamation This was compounded when the larger intercooler was added and the re-map was done to stage two. The BHP went from approx 125 to 200 but it never really felt anymore powerful or offered any gains at all other than blowing lots of black smoke out of the exhaust Confused

From what I understand most of the re-maps that are available are standard units offering the same program to all vehicles i.e. a Defender TDCi re-map is a standard re-map for a Defender TDCi. Pete's re-maps are unique to your vehicle as it takes into consideration your vehicles engine characteristics including mileage, engine wear, existing mapping etc, etc so is by far a superior system.

Also, I understand there are others offering a simelar switchable system to the one Pete is selling but there is a vast difference between his and theirs in that Pete's system actually re-maps the vehicle as mentioned above and is not just a standard re-map Bow down

Finally, it would seem that the majority of folk selling any kind of decent re-map these days are using Pete's system but selling it and badging it as their own Confused From what I understand Pete sells the equipment enableing someone to re-map a vehicle and then as and when they get a customer they contact Pete who, via PC, re-maps the vehicle. So can I suggest when going to someone for a re-map you ask who's it is Question

Pete, you are a genius and many thanks for you help and advice Bow down

sounds good

Can you explain how it actually looks with a couple of pics and what can one see on the display etc.
When you take it to the dealers, do you just unplug something and re-set to original?

Thanks
James

Hello, here is a few pics of the unit and the display.

I have not made the final instruction document as yet as ive not had time to complete it.
I will update this thread as i can when the pictures are finalised and put into use order.
For now i hope this helpsgive all an understanding of the unit its self.

For a quick exapmle untill the final document is ready the tool works like this

Read the car
Connect tool to PC to retrive original file from the tool
Send me the original file for tuning
I send back a tuned file
Upload to the tool with your PC
Use the tool to program the car

Once the tool has got the 2 files stored on it , there is now no more need for your PC any more the tool isall you need from now on.

Believe me when I say that the fitting and use of this unit is really easy Very Happy

You dont leave it plugged in but you could easily carry it in the cubby box - just in case you need to make an un-planned stop at the stealers for some reason Shocked

Pete,

Are you going to any shows in the near future and will you have the switchable re-map system on show at all Question

I know the LRO show is coming up at the North Of England show ground in Peterborough to which I am going so if you need a TDCi to help demonstrate the system, just let me know Question

Hi
Yes i have a small ARC show at Eccington in derby on the aug bank holliday that i will be at ,
and also be at the peterborough show in September i will be on a large ish stand that will be shared by my self and Venture overland the Patriot roof rack and roof tent reseller.

Im hoping to have some more Switching Remap systems delivery from the manafacturer this next week coming so i will have some at the show for defenate.

That would be excelent if your car was arround at the show if needed for a demo.
If its free for the weekend i will put it on the stand if you had no objection ???

Im sure i could give you a beer on the night in exchange lol.

Regards Pete

Hi Pete,

My Defender will be there all weekend so yes, if you would like you can put it on the stand for the full weekend - good swap for a beer Thumbs Up

I will even see if I can get it cleaned up prior to the show as she is in a bit of a state at the moment due to us having been away at the weekend offroading - doing what Defenders are supposed to do Smile

The new re-map really makes a difference and I was supprised that even in low box climbing over rocks and through mud you can tell the extra torque is there Thumbs Up

Are you selling the re-maps and re-mapping vehicles at the show this time Question

Russell.
