Rubber vs carpet floor mats
Hallo, I would like to know your comments regarding comfort of the regular daily ride in the Defender 110 SW having stock rubber mats and one equipped with carpet floor mats and tinted glass. I’m planning to buy a new Defender and that information would help me choose base model for further modifications.

Go for rubber as it will leak water and the carpets will be constantly wet Thumbs Up

The Bodyshop manger of my local LR dealer once told me that carpets in Defenders were the worst thing ever... YES, because i had mine in 8 times for water leaks and never gave up until it was dry as a bone. I have a loan Defender for a week and it has only rubber flooring and you can't hear yourself fart it is that noisier. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

been running mine without the floor carpets and had the rubber mats in due to water ingress with no noticable difference, i think the carpet on the bulkhead and seat box is what makes all the difference.

We don't get an option down here. That said I much prefer rubber mats and flooring covers over carpet unless you never intend to go off-road. 110 2.4TDCi

Rubber mats all the way that was one of the things that I love from my Defender.
Easy to clean in special after a winter forest work (lot of mud).

By the way, well no other option here, all Defenders comming with rubber mats Embarassed

Cheers Eduardo

Whats all this 'rubber mats/carpets' nonsense?

Im happy with my bare metal floor, covered in 3 years worth of Mcdonalds wrappers, stale chips and bogeys!

i have carpet with rubber mats ontop.

the only comment i would add it why on earth did land rover cut the middle row rubber mat in half ? on my td5 it was one long piece of rubber, on the puma there is a join in the middle ... there must be a reason - escapes me

I've not had any leaks either .. so the inside is bone dry

carpet is a disaster if you do any wet offroad work. the door seals leak in deep water as does the battery box and the drivers seat box so they need waterproofing. once the carpet gets wet thats it, takes weeks to dry and stinks. I never really understood why landrover didnt just rubberise the whole footwells area and put bungs in so you could hose it out then let out the water.

carpet under the rubber mats.

carpet works well to keep the noise down but as mention takes a while to dry out. its better to remove it to dry it. rubber mats you can pick up and shake the crap out of. for me the combination works well. Cheers

Thank you all for replies. Yesterday I drove a rubber finished one, now I know it definitely needs soundproofing especially at the load space. My Classic isn’t watertight Smile so I’m aware of the cons of having a carpet on the floor.
