Smoke Test DIY or NOT
Any advice on how to do a smoke test DIY or can it only be done professionally... I think i may have an intercooler crack or leak as there is a lot of black soot around bottom left of the intercooler.

Not noticeable lack of power in the car just perhaps a bit sluggish... Has BAS Stage 2 tune and a serek motorsport cooler

Before i bite the bullet and get a new one I wanted to just check the air system for a leak... Its a td5 btw
thanks in advance

spray it with soapy water and rev it up you will quickly know if you have a leak as it will bubble up DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

Shouldn't be any black soot on that side of the inter cooler surely as it should just be fresh air?

Unless its after the EGR? Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

You won't get soot, but if my memory serves me correctly there will be oil from the crankcase breather, feeds into the inlet just after the maf sensor.

Yes it will be oil. But with revving it you don't get that much pressure maybe half a bar. That might not be enough to open the crack. Roel
