Offside twang then rubbing/grinding noise...
So driving along and then loud 'twang' noise (a bit like elastic snapping) and then sort of rubbing/grinding noise as you slow down. Done it twice now, possibly 3 times (wife was driving that time and she isn't 100% sure) over last month or so. 1st time rubbing noise continued when driving forward but then put into reverse to turn around and when pulled forward it was all back to normal. Second time had to put straight into reverse to get off road and out of way and again, all fine again when pulling off.

Any ideas on what it might be and how serious?

It might be worth checking that one of the rear springs hasn't become slightly detached from the top collar.

I had this happen on my 110 and found that the intermittent rubbing noise was the spring touching the tyre. 2015 90 XS CSW TDCi - Beautiful

It does sound like a dislocated spring.
