Touch screen install into dash
Its started. The brackets have been made to house the in car PC, removed the dash to get access allow the wiring and brackets to mount the touch screen into the dash.

Ever wondered what your defender looks like without the dash in.

Andrew

Looks like an interesting project.

If you have 5 minutes, would you mind sharing any pics of the dash removed? When the dealers removed mine they moved some stuff i put in, so i wanted to try and formulate a plan of action Thumbs Up Mike

What sort of screen are you fitting?

I've got a LinITX 10.2" in my 110. works a treat. although I fitted a 12" to a friends 90,which is slightly better to look at for emails/web surfing, the 10" works brilliantly with mem map.

What are you using for the PC bit? i've got one of the voomPC2 boxes, and highy reccomend them.

I've built several for friends and they all work AOK (in fact, i'm just upgrading my motherboard to speed it up a bit)

AndrewS,

Really impressive picture of the open dash and the screen looks Thumbs Up

Just 2 questions
How did you manage the air outlets that were located behind the screen?
Any problem when you turn on the heater with the screen?

Cheers Eduardo

Intel E8400 Core 2 Duo processor (with Silverstone NT07-775 cooler) on a Zotac GF9300-I-E motherboard with 4GB of Crucial Ballistix RAM, 500Gb Seagate Momentus 7200.4 SATA 3GB/s hard drive (with G-Force Protection technology). All installed in a LinITX CarPC Chassis with a M2-ATX 160W Intelligent Car PSU and with an external LG GE20NU11 DVD drive. Running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. It will also have an Archos 7 plugged into it Thumbs Up

My plan was to re-direct the air to the second row seats, however this proved impossible so they have been blanked off. The two circular directional vents and the two rectangular vents are all fed from the same outlet so no big deal.
The two rectangular vents operate (blow) when the AC in turned on even if the fan is turned off. I have cut a few holes on the outlet manifold to allow this air to escape behind the dash if the circular vents happen to be closed. 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

Inside a mobile storage cubby box with a false fitted above it, takes up about 3-4" of cubby box depth but still loads of useable space Thumbs Up You cannot teach stupid people to do clever things

What's the airflow like around the PC if you fit it like that Steve?
Enough for it to stay cool in the desert?
