I had a RoW update from Landmarc today.... Imber is CLOSED over the August bank holiday weekend, but open later on in the month.

From the newsletter:

Quote:
Imber will not now be open over the August Bank Holiday. However, roads will be open from: 1600hrs Tuesday 30th August to 1600hrs Tuesday 6th September.

and more:

Quote:
TRAINING ON SPTA IN AUGUST

Ex Pashtun Dawn. 20 Armoured Brigade, who arrived from Germany in July, will continue with Mission Specific Training in preparation for Afghanistan. The exercise will use the whole Plain and involve 6100 troops, 300 armoured vehicles, helicopters and fixed wing aircraft. Convoys in excess of 80 vehicles will move across the Plain and there may be delays at tank crossings.

Access Restrictions. The Military Lands will be in use from 1 - 22 August 2011 and their use for recreational purposes suspended. There will be no access to Larkhill Artillery Ranges and permissive stone tracks in the Tilshead/Chitterne/Shrewton triangle (Copehill Down) will be closed in the interest of public safety. The public are requested to avoid areas where troops are training and to take care when using public rights of way on the Plain.

22 and 23 August. Military convoys and fleets of low loaders will use the main routes off the Plain on 22 and 23 August as the exercising troops disperse.

23 – 30 August. In the last week of August the only significant training will be 1 SCOTS GUARDS exercising on Imber ranges and SPTA West between 23 – 30 August.

So beware if you go out there, stick to the roW's and observe any "closed" track signs you see.

And watch for a metallic green 110 CSW with cage... that'll be me! Mr. Green Whistle Whistle

Dad was Mne (C) RM (45Cdo) in his reckless youth, had the dubious pleasure of being in the Troodos mountains during Lucky Alphonse. We spent our childhoods being drilled to yell "pongoes!" every time we passed a Bedford full of, er, pongoes.

I didn't take too much of his advice, but when he told "ffs, stay out of 'er madge's forces, you don't do authority and they'll kill you" I decided I might just take that one at face value Laughing

Dear anyone whom lives by and drives on Salisbury plain

I am in the area 1st to the 8th October and would like some advise on where I can turn just up and drive, I dont want to damage my landy so dont want anything too challenging but a drive on the loose or a few inchs of mud would be fine.

thanks in anticipation

yours Rob

ps I have next to no off road experience on 4 wheels so dont fancy any 45 degree climbs etc etc DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy
