With December quickly drawing to an end, I took a look back at the modifications I have installed on the SVX this past 2015. And when putting together the list, it is astonishing that now in its 8th year, the list still is that long.
This is clearly a never ending story, me who thought that the SVX was going to live a more or less mature existence with little more to do than maintenance, was clearly wrong. 
And I have some concrete plans for 2016 modifications already in the pipeline too. 
Thought to put together the list here, maybe someone else wants to also summarize what he/she all did to their Defender this past year. Some of the modifications are small, but there are some quite significant ones too, and some required some good negociation skills to get hold of, plus a bit of luck. The list ends with what I consider to be "A Bigger Bang". 
1. PEL500110 - the on the forum well discussed water thermostat mod to bring the engine running temp down some 10°C from the high 90s to the 80s which some here, including myself, think is better for the engine. This was the first mod this year, and same time replaced the coolant by new. No picture. 2. Scenelight S17 - again a well discussed topic on the forum, a great quality light to be used as a work light and when needed also as a reverse light.  Click image to enlarge Then early summer the SVX went for a week to Olaf in Germany for what I call some reliability and efficiency upgrades, but obviously a few other items were installed too in the process. 3+4. Wipac LED number plate light, a superior product with a warm white light output. For those interested part number is LNL005LED Click image to enlarge 9. Then, and this is also a mod or some will say I undid a earlier mod, I removed all the stainless screws in the doors and rear cross member and went back to standard mild steel screws plus big amounts of Weicon paste. Heated discussion on here, but I believe long term this is the better option for longevity. If a standard screw would start to rust, easy to promptly replace. Did this myself, the only thing which Olaf added is additional synthetic washers for the screws in the lower rear body. Weicon assembly paste for dissimilar metals. Does not harden.

After 4 years of happy use of Speaker EVOs, I had a change of heart, and decided to go back to my standard Wipac cristal halogens. I missed the original look. I also had already earlier that very nice landreiziger upgraded Swedish lights loom installed, but that was after the EVOs were installed, so no visible difference in light production, and I wanted to see how the light production of the standard Wipac cristal halogens with the full power from the alternator juice, and with a set of better output H4s from Land Rover, (part number VPLDV0061), would be. Pretty good, not as good as the EVOs of course, but in my particular case having the double SVX headlights, on both low and on high beam the Wipacs+90mm driving lamps now give me all the light I can wish for. So I won't go back to LED again, and the EVOs which were as new (also corrosion free) were sold to a new good home. Click image to enlarge 11. HUE166 key ring. Actually arrived today, same one as Roger Crathorne, aka Mr. Land Rover, is using as Defender taxi driver in the recent Bonhams auction teaser movie. Allows me to keep my 2 SVX key rings in storage. (they gave me some difficulties at airport security this year )

Click image to enlarge 13. Personalized license plate. Pretty unique to have letters in Switzerland.  Yeah, right. 
Click image to enlarge 14. Land Rover 67YRS LED Mini Maglite with its dedicated stainless/leather support. Now we get into uncharted territory as this is pretty rare to get hold of. Not the Mini Maglite which is for sale here in Switzerland by JLR, but the special holder to fix it to the bottom of the passenger side dash cover is not commercially available. That holder is a custom design from our Swiss importer and was manufactured locally for installing this Maglite in the 300 Swiss Heritage and the 100 Swiss Adventure models, not sure if also in the Autobiographys, but in any case there is no part number and it cannot be ordered individually. It took some talking with the right people in Safenwil to get them to supply me such holder, but in the end JLR Switzerland kindly offered it to me free of charge as a present. Nice gesture.
Click image to enlarge 15. Last, but not least, and this is absolutely "A Bigger Bang". Beginning 2015 JLR Switzerland made their own limited edition, 100 Swiss Legend edition 90 and 110 Defenders. These Legend editions were supplied with a filled leather tool bag installed very nicely on the safari door. I am not going into detail of how long it took and what we all did, but in the end there are not 100, but 102 of these leather toolbags in Switzerland. It is like the icing on the cake for the SVX. It is not an "SVX" anymore now, it is an "SVX Legend".
Please do not ask for the Land Rover part number for these, there is no such number, and there are no more bags or supports anymore either now. And all that is without the regular maintenance, the re-Dinitrol treatment, the reistallation of the little eyewatering expensive foam door blocks, etc. That all falls under maintenance, not mods I think. Replaced front door seals Purchased a new rear x-member from Blacksheep Fitted to rear LED work lights Removed the front A bar / relocated spot lights Repainted the winch bumper Made the drawers for the rear Replaced alloys with Boost ones - just the spare to replace Fitted Glyn Lewis front outrigger protectors Dinitroled the chassis up-to the rear springs Replaced spring, shocks and steering dampener Fitted a volt meter. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

Just regular service and the odd repair. Fixed a rotted exhaust pipe, and changed the front double cardan propshaft for a wide yoke propshaft. Replaced the tires (with the same, BFG AT), upgraded the number plate light to LED.

The maidentrip to Italy with it was a great success! I've modified my truck a bit this year...
1x full service, all filters and fluids except axles 2x Ashcroft LSDs + synthetic oils 1x scene light with remote control switch 2x OEM F&I light surrounds 2x LED spot lights Removed and Sold my FCX momo Nero steering wheel Entreq airflow kit (intercooler pipes) Entreq airflow kit II (airbox kit) Entreq rear door strip And a Paul Smith key ring 
Still not broken and 20,000 miles

^^ Drive a bit more often to Geneva, that will add some mileage.
By the way, those LED 90mm spot lights to replace the standard halogen version, I was impressed when I saw the job done.

One of the Heritage/67yrs(empty, I believe) went today for 135 CHF on Ricardo. I also saw one roll-bag like the one showing on your picture for sale at 390 CHF!!! |

^^ Such a price for that Heritage/67YRS bag, even if empty, is a bargain. High quality item really. Inside should be tow strap, jumper cables and leather gloves. If it would be complete, it would be worth at least 3 times the price you mention there.
If someone is selling just the toolroll out of the Legend bag, dumber than dumb I would say. Those bags not only are top quality, but also have a very high collectable value. Yes, that's what I have in mine.
The pictures showed it empty. Saw the bag listing too late, even if I don't know if I would have tried to buy(price would have gone higher) as I already have one, and you had to go pick it up near Zurich(more cost) The toolroll(which is not part of my bag  ) for 390 is a bit steep. |

Interesting one this, I had no idea really until I started to do the list, so I will start with the easy ones.
Washed at least 52 times Valet at least 20 times Full detail 12 times. So waaaaaaay to much money spent on cleaning
140 000 km in Dec 14 to 195 000km in Dec 2015 55 000 KM in the year. 3 Full main dealer services New turbo and manifold. New wiper motor. New brake discs and pads. Roof repainted again under warranty Windscreen surround painted again under warranty. Total, twice since new Wing mirrors replaced again and again under warranty, Total times replaced since new 4 Back window catches replaced again under warranty. Total times replaces since new 5 Rear cross member repainted under warranty for the 3 time since new. Rear step bumper stripped and re plastic coated under warranty. This all took a huge amount of time and effort to get completed, Land Rover will try to get out of all warranty claims so you just have to keep pushing, the corrosion warranty is 6 years. If more owners had taken the same view as me, as in not accepting bad quality all the issues would have been fixed at source I feel many years ago. New Bonnet and badge because some fool ( thats being me ) put a dent in it Sills repainted as worn from getting in and out Still leaking after 14 visits to dealer to fix, they won on this as I just gave up  but it seems to have moved to the back footwell from the front!

Eric - Your LED number plate light. I notice you are using it with no plinth which looks more flush and neat.
Mines on the plinth but isn't a great fit like that but didn't want to fiddle with it at the time... Did everything line up as you've fitted it or was there any drilling required? By this I mean the two fixing bolts. |

Steve, take another look at the picture. It is installed on a standard plinth. Strong shadow in the pic may mislead you, but you can see the outline of the plinth if you look for it. Yes, the Wipac light fits the plinth perfectly, no drilling needed, no gaps anywhere.
The best thing of this Wipac light is its overall quality, 4 high quality SMD LEDs which are not blue-ish and which do not start to fail within minutes after installation (how do I know? ), which throw a very good light spread onto the number plate itself as opposed to mostly onto the ground, which does not need to drill another hole for the two wires than the standard hole available in the Defender plinth, and which as icing on the cake has a stainless center screw which also does not rust, things at which the Le Perei version fails on all fronts.
