Damaged door lock driver's side
I've caught the interior door lock with my coat sleeve and basically trashed it! The door still opens / closes and locks ok so I'm grateful for that. The outside edge of the lock has gone and the inner flat bolt thingy is hanging around not obviously doing much.

Do I need to take the door apart and replace the whole lot? Has anyone else done this? Apologies if it's been covered before.

A picture might help people to give some hints or advice as to what's happened, but as its a safety critical item suggest a replacement might be the safest route?

I think you're right, I'd be best replacing the whole thing.

That's the one! Sorry - I tried to put a photo on last night but I'm on my phone and it didn't work, I'll try again.
