5 Meter/5 ton recovery strap with 3,25 ton shackles

Bought this strap and shackles last week and was so impressed with the comms from Mark who went out of his way to ship me another when the parcel didn't arrive before the weekend. Buying on eBay can be a gamble but this has been the best experience I have had with a seller and wanted to share not just because the service was brilliant but the product is also a high quality and thought it would be a good share here.

Hi Steve, that strap is rated at 5 tonne minimum break strength with no safety factor.

Standard green polyester duplex lifting slings 50mm wide have a WLL working Load Limit of 2 tonnes made to BSEN 1492-1:2000 has a (7:1 Safety Factor) or minimum break strength of 14 tonnes when new. A 5m 2 tonne WLL duplex polyester strap is available from many suppliers for less then £20.

Not trying to rain on your parade Steve or commenting on the ebay sellers communications etc.

It is a case of how information is presented. A 2 tonne WLL strap is stronger then that 5 tonne MBS strap.

Hi Steve, in a previous life, I used to test rebar and wire rope fittings. Then went on to doing research and testing of polymers.

Also used to make and test webbing harnesses, hence why I sometimes 'rant' on about the differences between polyester and nylon etc.

Brendan, thanks for that info. I've often wondered if my green 2tonnes straps were strong enough. Is there any reading material you would recommend regarding rope/strap working practices, strengths etc..?
